prioritise linking to Keybase, since it is supported for grin wallet transactions, and because we have enough eyes on that chat to quickly kick out spammers/scammers

Discord is far more adopted by crypto savvy people. It would be a mistake to replace it by a Keybase community link. Instead, I would propose to let them both co-exist. Also what 0xb100d said on gitter/grin/ is not true. The "grin community" on discord is moderated, and no scams have happened. People are encouraged to help each other and tools that 0xb100d shows for example in there are appreciated. If there's less people that are into grin development on Discord doesn't necessarily mean that it should be erased. People go where they want to go.

Maybe just "Keybase"? I think we should be making it more prominent that keybase should be used for trading but I don't think this is the right place.

@russkidooski @Lavalulu while you probably have good intentions, promoting channels in the website that are not moderated/endorsed directly by grin core contributors feels problematic to me. @ignopeverell @antiochp @yeastplume @tromp @lehnberg @hashmap @quentinlesceller thoughts? discord is not unique and there are myriads of other platforms where most grinners don't actively use so I am wondering whether a middle-ground solution where all grin communities (apart from gitter, the mailing list, and the forum) are listed in the wiki with a warning and then the website points to that link is better.

Isn't this an open-source project? Where anyone in the community can do whatever they want? Where the community reflects the project? We're open for having grin-core members involved, but haven't seen them around much.
We are open to adding moderators of the core team's choice.

Adding keybase is fine, but removing discord would require a governance meeting proposal and approval.

Yeah I agree with Tromp here. Adding keybase is fine, however not sure we want to say "Chat and Trade", just indicating "Keybase" is enough.

There's no official channel. Even though we monitor and moderate gitter, it may not always be the case (count the times the bitcoin devs have had to move from invaded channels). So I'd personally be for marking all communication channels as "community supported" and just point out which are more adapted for some purposes (i.e. help, dev, trading, banter, etc).

👍 thanks for the reviews and comments.

I made these changes:

  1. keep Discord
  2. removed the word "trading"
  3. Added "chat" after some, and "(Lobby)" for the lobby chat link.

Any more changes needed?

As per Jan 17 decision Keybase should not be on website:

Decision: Managing chat channels

  • Only community promoted on website should be Gitter, because that is where development is taking place.
  • Add "Communities" page on wiki. This could be sorted by platform, members in community, etc. Have website link to this page.
  • Add "Events" page on wiki, functioning the same way, with links from the website.

So @sesam I would suggest you close this one.
