Added Deck cloning to new Cookbook chapter #330
Conversation
Is this a copy of the respective blog post? There's one aspect that's worth mentionning (as warning/note): |
Yes. This is a copy. |
Hey @ronso0 . I added the gif and the note as requested. Kindly review :) |
Thank you. To me, it's a bit unclear how this new chapter differs from the "DJing with Mixxx" chapter. There seems to be sufficient overlap to merge the two, or am I missing something? |
I think the intent of the cookbook is to be more instructive -- instead of talking about features in general, give people concrete steps to apply. We should even provide links to Free tracks that they can use to follow the recipe. "1. Load this track. 2. Press play. 3. Try using the rate slider here...." etc etc, leading someone through the mechanics of doing a mix. |

Playing with a single turntable
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In a typical DJ setup, you have two decks and a mixer, but with the deck clone feature, it's possible to play with a single deck. You can :term:`cue point <cue>`, beatmatch, and mix in the next track on a single deck. Once the track is mixed in, swap it to another channel using the deck clone feature, freeing up your single deck for the next track. This is useful if you are building out a DVS setup, but you only have one turntable so far or if you need to play with a minimal setup. For example, you may not have enough space for two decks or you might want to reduce the amount of gear you have to lug around. Finally, this method can be used as a backup way to keep playing if one of your turntables malfunctions. |
How about adding a link to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLwsFQK4J6c ?
This section could use more detail with step-by-step instructions.
I don't think this subsection heading adds anything. I think it can simply be deleted and the text below can just be part of the the larger "Deck Cloning" section.
Then the rest of the subsections can be moved up one level from ~~~~
Okay. Noted.
How about "DJing techniques" as a name for this new chapter? |
@ywwg what do you think? |
Okay. I guess "DJing techniques" does sound more straight forward than "The cookbook". |
Yeah, we need to figure out how to reorganize the content of the "DJing with Mixxx" chapter. I propose renaming the "DJing with Mixxx" chapter to "DJing techniques" and splitting the sections about recording and Auto DJ to separate chapters. |
I think no one is going to work on this or further examples. I'm closing this now, if anyone wants to take another stab at this (the entire Cookbook idea) feel free to reopen. |
In response to this issue I added "Deck Cloning" to the manual as part of the cookbook chapter. Right after "Advanced Topics". This would be the first of many recipes.
