I have a few different setups for my mixxx installation: just my laptop, my laptop and a vestax controller with audio, and my laptop with an Audio10 sound card. It would be nice if Mixxx could remember how I set things up when a certain combination of sound cards are detected and make the same selections. Bitwig studio does something like that. It does not have to be perfect and account for all permutations of sound cards.

I have a similar thing on my wishlist.
I generally use the same hardware setup on the PC site, but the settings for my 8 channel audio card are different whether I am connected to multiple channels or just one.
So for me it would be nice if I could save each of my settings in a profile that I then can load as desired.
The only difference to Owen's wish is that for me this should not be automatically detected, but manually loaded.

In very rare cases I use the internal sound card.
That's when the audio settings change and a window pops up to ask me how Mixxx should continue.
At that point, I would certainly appreciate that Mixxx would ask me which profile I would like to use.

@owen: I guess that such a solution would already help you too, wouldn't it?

Of course, if with hardware change the corresponding profile would be selected automatically, this would even be better!
Something like ...

  • Oops, hardware change!
  • Are there profiles saved for this hardware configuration?
  • Yes, only 1 ... then select it automatically
  • Yes, more than 1 ... then ask which of those to use
  • No ... then ask which one of all profiles to use
And of course in the last 2 cases allow to choose for a new setup also

This would be a huge win! with automation even..wow!

with quick hardware profiles MiXXXX would be much more appealing to me when I just want to do a quick prep sessions (edit playlists and maybe listen to a few songs wit internal soundcard) but don't want to dig out out my DJ equipment.
having to reconfigure the sound outputs is keeping me from doing this more often.
