GVM is broken: use release tags

After the recent commits on August 5, GVM is broken with multiple issues like aliases not working, hexdump is a new requirement.

This issue is to release a new tag from before the changes were made so that we can keep using the older version till master is stabilized. Once there is a stable point, a new release can be created so that others can use it.

I tried to install multiple versions with and without binary and also ran into all kinds of errors. I can't seem to get anything installed past the 1.4 or 1.5 versions (with binary)
