I've cleaned DTS a bit. Also I added that PSCI workaround but I didn't tested it yet. |

TCPM may receive PD messages associated with unknown or unsupported alternate modes. If that happens, calls to typec_match_altmode() will return NULL. The tcpm code does not currently take this into account. This results in crashes. A deadlock with this stacktrace was observed. The loop thread does a GFP_KERNEL allocation, it calls into dm-bufio shrinker and the shrinker depends on I/O completion in the dm-bufio subsystem. In order to fix the deadlock (and other similar ones), we set the flag PF_MEMALLOC_NOIO at loop thread entry. Revert the commit bd293d0. The proper fix has been made available with commit d0a255e ("loop: set PF_MEMALLOC_NOIO for the worker thread"). Note that the fix offered by commit bd293d0 doesn't really prevent the deadlock from occuring - if we look at the stacktrace reported by Junxiao Bi, we see that it hangs in bit_wait_io and not on the mutex - i.e. it has already successfully taken the mutex. Changing the mutex from mutex_lock to mutex_trylock won't help with deadlocks that happen afterwards. …span() Let's limit shrinking to !ZONE_DEVICE so we can fix the current code. We should never try to touch the memmap of offline sections where we could have uninitialized memmaps and could trigger BUGs when calling page_to_nid() on poisoned pages. There is no reliable way to distinguish an uninitialized memmap from an initialized memmap that belongs to ZONE_DEVICE, as we don't have anything like SECTION_IS_ONLINE we can use similar to pfn_to_online_section() for !ZONE_DEVICE memory. E.g., set_zone_contiguous() similarly relies on pfn_to_online_section() and will therefore never set a ZONE_DEVICE zone consecutive. Stopping to shrink the ZONE_DEVICE therefore results in no observable changes, besides /proc/zoneinfo indicating different boundaries - something we can totally live with. Before commit d0dc12e ("mm/memory_hotplug: optimize memory hotplug"), the memmap was initialized with 0 and the node with the right value. So the zone might be wrong but not garbage. After that commit, both the zone and the node will be garbage when touching uninitialized memmaps. Toshiki reported a BUG (race between delayed initialization of ZONE_DEVICE memmaps without holding the memory hotplug lock and concurrent zone shrinking). https://lkml.org/lkml/2019/11/14/1040 "Iteration of create and destroy namespace causes the panic as below: kernel BUG at mm/page_alloc.c:535! This BUG is also mitigated by this commit, where we for now stop to shrink the ZONE_DEVICE zone until we can do it in a safe and clean way. Ido Schimmel says: ==================== mlxsw: Various fixes This patch set contains various fixes for mlxsw. Patch #1 splits the init() callback between Spectrum-2 and Spectrum-3 in order to avoid enforcing the same firmware version for both ASICs, as this can't possibly work. Without this patch the driver cannot boot with the Spectrum-3 ASIC. Patches #2-#3 fix a long standing race condition that was recently exposed while testing the driver on an emulator, which is very slow compared to the actual hardware. The problem is explained in detail in the commit messages. Patch #4 fixes a selftest. Patch #5 prevents offloaded qdiscs from presenting a non-zero backlog to the user when the netdev is down. This is done by clearing the cached backlog in the driver when the netdev goes down. Patch #6 fixes qdisc statistics (backlog and tail drops) to also take into account the multicast traffic classes. v2: * Patches #2-#3: use skb_cow_head() instead of skb_unshare() as suggested by Jakub. Remove unnecessary check regarding headroom * Patches #5-#6: new ==================== Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

When experimenting with bpf_send_signal() helper in our production environment (5.2 based), we experienced a deadlock in NMI mode: #5 [ffffc9002219f770] queued_spin_lock_slowpath at ffffffff8110be24 #6 [ffffc9002219f770] _raw_spin_lock_irqsave at ffffffff81a43012 #7 [ffffc9002219f780] try_to_wake_up at ffffffff810e7ecd #8 [ffffc9002219f7e0] signal_wake_up_state at ffffffff810c7b55 #9 [ffffc9002219f7f0] __send_signal at ffffffff810c8602 #10 [ffffc9002219f830] do_send_sig_info at ffffffff810ca31a #11 [ffffc9002219f868] bpf_send_signal at ffffffff8119d227 #12 [ffffc9002219f988] bpf_overflow_handler at ffffffff811d4140 #13 [ffffc9002219f9e0] __perf_event_overflow at ffffffff811d68cf #14 [ffffc9002219fa10] perf_swevent_overflow at ffffffff811d6a09 #15 [ffffc9002219fa38] ___perf_sw_event at ffffffff811e0f47 #16 [ffffc9002219fc30] __schedule at ffffffff81a3e04d #17 [ffffc9002219fc90] schedule at ffffffff81a3e219 #18 [ffffc9002219fca0] futex_wait_queue_me at ffffffff8113d1b9 #19 [ffffc9002219fcd8] futex_wait at ffffffff8113e529 #20 [ffffc9002219fdf0] do_futex at ffffffff8113ffbc #21 [ffffc9002219fec0] __x64_sys_futex at ffffffff81140d1c #22 [ffffc9002219ff38] do_syscall_64 at ffffffff81002602 #23 [ffffc9002219ff50] entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe at ffffffff81c00068 The above call stack is actually very similar to an issue reported by Commit eac9153 ("bpf/stackmap: Fix deadlock with rq_lock in bpf_get_stack()") by Song Liu. The only difference is bpf_send_signal() helper instead of bpf_get_stack() helper. The above deadlock is triggered with a perf_sw_event. Similar to Commit eac9153, the below almost identical reproducer used tracepoint point sched/sched_switch so the issue can be easily caught. /* stress_test.c */ #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <sys/mman.h> #include <pthread.h> #include <sys/types.h> #include <sys/stat.h> #include <fcntl.h> #define THREAD_COUNT 1000 char *filename; void *worker(void *p) { void *ptr; int fd; char *pptr; fd = open(filename, O_RDONLY); if (fd < 0) return NULL; while (1) { struct timespec ts = {0, 1000 + rand() % 2000}; ptr = mmap(NULL, 4096 * 64, PROT_READ, MAP_PRIVATE, fd, 0); usleep(1); if (ptr == MAP_FAILED) { printf("failed to mmap\n"); break; } munmap(ptr, 4096 * 64); usleep(1); pptr = malloc(1); usleep(1); pptr[0] = 1; usleep(1); free(pptr); usleep(1); nanosleep(&ts, NULL); } close(fd); return NULL; } int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { void *ptr; int i; pthread_t threads[THREAD_COUNT]; if (argc < 2) return 0; filename = argv[1]; for (i = 0; i < THREAD_COUNT; i++) { if (pthread_create(threads + i, NULL, worker, NULL)) { fprintf(stderr, "Error creating thread\n"); return 0; } } for (i = 0; i < THREAD_COUNT; i++) pthread_join(threads[i], NULL); return 0; } and the following command: 1. run `stress_test /bin/ls` in one windown 2. hack bcc trace.py with the following change: --- a/tools/trace.py +++ b/tools/trace.py @@ -513,6 +513,7 @@ BPF_PERF_OUTPUT(%s); __data.tgid = __tgid; __data.pid = __pid; bpf_get_current_comm(&__data.comm, sizeof(__data.comm)); + bpf_send_signal(10); %s %s %s.perf_submit(%s, &__data, sizeof(__data)); 3. in a different window run ./trace.py -p $(pidof stress_test) t:sched:sched_switch The deadlock can be reproduced in our production system. Similar to Song's fix, the fix is to delay sending signal if irqs is disabled to avoid deadlocks involving with rq_lock. With this change, my above stress-test in our production system won't cause deadlock any more. I also implemented a scale-down version of reproducer in the selftest (a subsequent commit). With latest bpf-next, it complains for the following potential deadlock. This is not exactly the callstack in our production environment, but sympotom is similar and both locks are using spin_lock_irqsave() to acquire the lock, and both involves rq_lock. The fix to delay sending signal when irq is disabled also fixed this issue. This of course leads to the BUG halt in add_timer getting called. Fix seems pretty straightforward, just check before the timer is added if its already been started. If it has mod the timer instead to min(current expiration, new expiration) Its been tested but not confirmed to fix the problem, as the issue has only occured in production environments where test kernels are enjoined from being installed. It appears to be a sane fix to me though. After entering kdb due to breakpoint, when we execute 'ss' or 'go' (will delay installing breakpoints, do single-step first), it won't work correctly, and it will enter kdb due to oops. It's because the reason gotten in kdb_stub() is not as expected, and it seems that the ex_vector for single-step should be 0, like what arch powerpc/sh/parisc has implemented. In the case where the above rcu stall occured, we had a process having 1587 tasks and each task having roughly 81305 files. This implied 129 million bpf prog invocations. Unfortunwtely none of these files are prog/map/link/btf files so bpf iterator/prog needs to traverse all these files and not able to return to user space since there are no seq_file buffer overflow. This patch fixed the issue in bpf_seq_read() to limit the number of visited objects. If the maximum number of visited objects is reached, no more objects will be visited in the current syscall. If there is nothing written in the seq_file buffer, -EAGAIN will return to the user so user can try again. The maximum number of visited objects is set at 1 million. In our Intel Xeon D-2191 2.3GHZ 18-core server, bpf_seq_read() visiting 1 million files takes around 0.18 seconds. We did not use cond_resched() since for some iterators, e.g., netlink iterator, where rcu read_lock critical section spans between consecutive seq_ops->next(), which makes impossible to do cond_resched() in the key while loop of function bpf_seq_read(). Because the work queue allocation is done with GFP_KERNEL, it can trigger reclaim, which can lead to a transaction commit, which in turns needs the device_list_mutex, it can lead to a deadlock. A different problem for which this fix is a solution. Fix this by moving the actual allocation outside of the scrub lock, and then only take the lock once we're ready to actually assign them to the fs_info. We'll now have to cleanup the workqueues in a few more places, so I've added a helper to do the refcount dance to safely free the workqueues. The marco map_for_each_event() loops over that array tests for members metric_expr/metric_name/metric_group being non-NULL. Adding this element fixes the issue. The metricgroup__add_metric() can find multiple match for a metric group and it's possible to fail. Also it can fail in the middle like in resolve_metric() even for single metric. If an AF_PACKET socket is used to send packets through ipvlan and the default xmit function of the AF_PACKET socket is changed from dev_queue_xmit() to packet_direct_xmit() via setsockopt() with the option name of PACKET_QDISC_BYPASS, the skb->mac_header may not be reset and remains as the initial value of 65535, this may trigger slab-out-of-bounds bugs as following: ================================================================= UG: KASAN: slab-out-of-bounds in ipvlan_xmit_mode_l2+0xdb/0x330 [ipvlan] PU: 2 PID: 1768 Comm: raw_send Kdump: loaded Not tainted 6.0.0-rc4+ #6 ardware name: QEMU Standard PC (i440FX + PIIX, 1996), BIOS 1.14.0-1.fc33 all Trace: print_address_description.constprop.0+0x1d/0x160 print_report.cold+0x4f/0x112 kasan_report+0xa3/0x130 ipvlan_xmit_mode_l2+0xdb/0x330 [ipvlan] ipvlan_start_xmit+0x29/0xa0 [ipvlan] __dev_direct_xmit+0x2e2/0x380 packet_direct_xmit+0x22/0x60 packet_snd+0x7c9/0xc40 sock_sendmsg+0x9a/0xa0 __sys_sendto+0x18a/0x230 __x64_sys_sendto+0x74/0x90 do_syscall_64+0x3b/0x90 entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x63/0xcd The root cause is: 1. packet_snd() only reset skb->mac_header when sock->type is SOCK_RAW and skb->protocol is not specified as in packet_parse_headers() 2. packet_direct_xmit() doesn't reset skb->mac_header as dev_queue_xmit() In this case, skb->mac_header is 65535 when ipvlan_xmit_mode_l2() is called. So when ipvlan_xmit_mode_l2() gets mac header with eth_hdr() which use "skb->head + skb->mac_header", out-of-bound access occurs. This patch replaces eth_hdr() with skb_eth_hdr() in ipvlan_xmit_mode_l2() and reset mac header in multicast to solve this out-of-bound bug. When the filesystem is remounted, recovery will try to replay the committed rmap intent item, but the corruption problem causes the recovery transaction to fail. Cancelling the transaction frees the RUD, which frees the RUI that we recovered. When we return to xlog_recover_process_intents, @lip is now a dangling pointer, and we cannot use it to find the iop_recover method for the tracepoint. Hence we must store the item ops before calling ->iop_recover if we want to give it to the tracepoint so that the trace data will tell us exactly which intent item failed. Signed-off-by: Darrick J. The problem is encoutered with tests added by commit 38608ee ("bpf, tests: Add load store test case for tail call") This happens because tail call is done to a BPF prog with a different stack_depth. At the time being, the stack is kept as is when the caller tail calls its callee. But at exit, the callee restores the stack based on its own properties. Therefore here, at each run, r1 is erroneously increased by 32 - 16 = 16 bytes. This was done that way in order to pass the tail call count from caller to callee through the stack. As powerpc32 doesn't have a red zone in the stack, it was necessary the maintain the stack as is for the tail call. But it was not anticipated that the BPF frame size could be different. Let's take a new approach. Use register r4 to carry the tail call count during the tail call, and save it into the stack at function entry if required. This means the input parameter must be in r3, which is more correct as it is a 32 bits parameter, then tail call better match with normal BPF function entry, the down side being that we move that input parameter back and forth between r3 and r4. That can be optimised later. Doing that also has the advantage of maximising the common parts between tail calls and a normal function exit. With the fix, tail call tests are now successfull: test_bpf: #0 Tail call leaf jited:1 53 PASS test_bpf: #1 Tail call 2 jited:1 115 PASS test_bpf: #2 Tail call 3 jited:1 154 PASS test_bpf: #3 Tail call 4 jited:1 165 PASS test_bpf: #4 Tail call load/store leaf jited:1 101 PASS test_bpf: #5 Tail call load/store jited:1 141 PASS test_bpf: #6 Tail call error path, max count reached jited:1 994 PASS test_bpf: #7 Tail call count preserved across function calls jited:1 140975 PASS test_bpf: #8 Tail call error path, NULL target jited:1 110 PASS test_bpf: #9 Tail call error path, index out of range jited:1 69 PASS test_bpf: test_tail_calls: Summary: 10 PASSED, 0 FAILED, [10/10 JIT'ed] Suggested-by: Naveen N. Commit 9130b8d ("SUNRPC: allow for upcalls for the same uid but different gss service") introduced `auth` argument to __gss_find_upcall(), but in gss_pipe_downcall() it was left as NULL since it (and auth->service) was not (yet) determined. When multiple upcalls with the same uid and different service are ongoing, it could happen that __gss_find_upcall(), which returns the first match found in the pipe->in_downcall list, could not find the correct gss_msg corresponding to the downcall we are looking for. Moreover, it might return a msg which is not sent to rpc.gssd yet. We could see mount.nfs process hung in D state with multiple mount.nfs are executed in parallel. The call trace below is of CentOS 7.9 kernel-3.10.0-1160.24.1.el7.x86_64 but we observed the same hang w/ elrepo kernel-ml-6.0.7-1.el7. Let's say there are two upcalls for services A and B, A -> B in pipe->in_downcall, B -> A in pipe->pipe. When rpc.gssd reads pipe to get the upcall msg corresponding to service B from pipe->pipe and then writes the response, in gss_pipe_downcall the msg corresponding to service A will be picked because only uid is used to find the msg and it is before the one for B in pipe->in_downcall. And the process waiting for the msg corresponding to service A will be woken up. Actual scheduing of that process might be after rpc.gssd processes the next msg. In rpc_pipe_generic_upcall it clears msg->errno (for A). The process is scheduled to see gss_msg->ctx == NULL and gss_msg->msg.errno == 0, therefore it cannot break the loop in gss_create_upcall and is never woken up after that. This patch adds a simple check to ensure that a msg which is not sent to rpc.gssd yet is not chosen as the matching upcall upon receiving a downcall. In Google internal bug 265639009 we've received an (as yet) unreproducible crash report from an aarch64 GKI 5.10.149-android13 running device. AFAICT the source code is at: https://android.googlesource.com/kernel/common/+/refs/tags/ASB-2022-12-05_13-5.10 The call stack is: ncm_close() -> ncm_notify() -> ncm_do_notify() with the crash at: ncm_do_notify+0x98/0x270 Code: 79000d0b b9000a6c f940012a f9400269 (b9405d4b) Which I believe disassembles to (I don't know ARM assembly, but it looks sane enough to me...): // halfword (16-bit) store presumably to event->wLength (at offset 6 of struct usb_cdc_notification) 0B 0D 00 79 strh w11, [x8, #6] // word (32-bit) store presumably to req->Length (at offset 8 of struct usb_request) 6C 0A 00 B9 str w12, [x19, #8] // x10 (NULL) was read here from offset 0 of valid pointer x9 // IMHO we're reading 'cdev->gadget' and getting NULL // gadget is indeed at offset 0 of struct usb_composite_dev 2A 01 40 F9 ldr x10, [x9] // loading req->buf pointer, which is at offset 0 of struct usb_request 69 02 40 F9 ldr x9, [x19] // x10 is null, crash, appears to be attempt to read cdev->gadget->max_speed 4B 5D 40 B9 ldr w11, [x10, #0x5c] which seems to line up with ncm_do_notify() case NCM_NOTIFY_SPEED code fragment: event->wLength = cpu_to_le16(8); req->length = NCM_STATUS_BYTECOUNT; /* SPEED_CHANGE data is up/down speeds in bits/sec */ data = req->buf + sizeof *event; data[0] = cpu_to_le32(ncm_bitrate(cdev->gadget)); My analysis of registers and NULL ptr deref crash offset (Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 000000000000005c) heavily suggests that the crash is due to 'cdev->gadget' being NULL when executing: data[0] = cpu_to_le32(ncm_bitrate(cdev->gadget)); which calls: ncm_bitrate(NULL) which then calls: gadget_is_superspeed(NULL) which reads ((struct usb_gadget *)NULL)->max_speed and hits a panic. AFAICT, if I'm counting right, the offset of max_speed is indeed 0x5C. (remember there's a GKI KABI reservation of 16 bytes in struct work_struct) It's not at all clear to me how this is all supposed to work... but returning 0 seems much better than panic-ing... In iavf_shutdown() the adapter state is changed to __IAVF_REMOVE. In ice_shutdown() the call chain above is executed, which at some point calls iavf_remove(). However iavf_remove() expects the VF to be in one of the states __IAVF_RUNNING, __IAVF_DOWN or __IAVF_INIT_FAILED. If that's not the case it sleeps forever. So if iavf_shutdown() gets invoked before iavf_remove() the system will hang indefinitely because the adapter is already in state __IAVF_REMOVE. Fix this by returning from iavf_remove() if the state is __IAVF_REMOVE, as we already went through iavf_shutdown(). In xfs_buffered_write_iomap_begin, @icur is the iext cursor for the data fork and @CCur is the cursor for the cow fork. Pass in whichever cursor corresponds to allocfork, because otherwise the xfs_iext_prev_extent call can use the data fork cursor to walk off the end of the cow fork structure. Best case it returns the wrong results, worst case it does this: stack segment: 0000 [#1] PREEMPT SMP CPU: 2 PID: 3141909 Comm: fsstress Tainted: G W 6.3.0-rc2-xfsx #6.3.0-rc2 7bf5cc2e98997627cae5c930d890aba3aeec65dd Hardware name: QEMU Standard PC (i440FX + PIIX, 1996), BIOS ?-20171121_152543-x86-ol7-builder-01.us.oracle.com-4.el7.1 04/01/2014 RIP: 0010:xfs_iext_prev+0x71/0x150 [xfs] RSP: 0018:ffffc90002233aa8 EFLAGS: 00010297 RAX: 000000000000000f RBX: 000000000000000e RCX: 000000000000000c RDX: 0000000000000002 RSI: 000000000000000e RDI: ffff8883d0019ba0 RBP: 989642409af8a7a7 R08: ffffea0000000001 R09: 0000000000000002 R10: 0000000000000000 R11: 000000000000000c R12: ffffc90002233b00 R13: ffff8883d0019ba0 R14: 989642409af8a6bf R15: 000ffffffffe0000 FS: 00007fdf8115f740(0000) GS:ffff88843fd00000(0000) knlGS:0000000000000000 CS: 0010 DS: 0000 ES: 0000 CR0: 0000000080050033 CR2: 00007fdf8115e000 CR3: 0000000357256000 CR4: 00000000003506e0 Call Trace: <TASK> xfs_iomap_prealloc_size.constprop.0.isra.0+0x1a6/0x410 [xfs 619a268fb2406d68bd34e007a816b27e70abc22c] xfs_buffered_write_iomap_begin+0xa87/0xc60 [xfs 619a268fb2406d68bd34e007a816b27e70abc22c] iomap_iter+0x132/0x2f0 iomap_file_buffered_write+0x92/0x330 xfs_file_buffered_write+0xb1/0x330 [xfs 619a268fb2406d68bd34e007a816b27e70abc22c] vfs_write+0x2eb/0x410 ksys_write+0x65/0xe0 do_syscall_64+0x2b/0x80 entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x46/0xb0 Found by xfs/538 in alwayscow mode, but this doesn't seem particular to that test. In the function ieee80211_tx_dequeue() there is a particular locking sequence: begin: spin_lock(&local->queue_stop_reason_lock); q_stopped = local->queue_stop_reasons[q]; spin_unlock(&local->queue_stop_reason_lock); However small the chance (increased by ftracetest), an asynchronous interrupt can occur in between of spin_lock() and spin_unlock(), and the interrupt routine will attempt to lock the same &local->queue_stop_reason_lock again. This will cause a costly reset of the CPU and the wifi device or an altogether hang in the single CPU and single core scenario. The only remaining spin_lock(&local->queue_stop_reason_lock) that did not disable interrupts was patched, which should prevent any deadlocks on the same CPU/core and the same wifi device. This is the probable trace of the deadlock: kernel: ================================ kernel: WARNING: inconsistent lock state kernel: 6.3.0-rc6-mt-20230401-00001-gf86822a1170f #4 Tainted: G W kernel: -------------------------------- kernel: inconsistent {IN-SOFTIRQ-W} -> {SOFTIRQ-ON-W} usage. kernel: kworker/5:0/25656 [HC0[0]:SC0[0]:HE1:SE1] takes: kernel: ffff9d6190779478 (&local->queue_stop_reason_lock){+.?.}-{2:2}, at: return_to_handler+0x0/0x40 kernel: {IN-SOFTIRQ-W} state was registered at: kernel: lock_acquire+0xc7/0x2d0 kernel: _raw_spin_lock+0x36/0x50 kernel: ieee80211_tx_dequeue+0xb4/0x1330 [mac80211] kernel: iwl_mvm_mac_itxq_xmit+0xae/0x210 [iwlmvm] kernel: iwl_mvm_mac_wake_tx_queue+0x2d/0xd0 [iwlmvm] kernel: ieee80211_queue_skb+0x450/0x730 [mac80211] kernel: __ieee80211_xmit_fast.constprop.66+0x834/0xa50 [mac80211] kernel: __ieee80211_subif_start_xmit+0x217/0x530 [mac80211] kernel: ieee80211_subif_start_xmit+0x60/0x580 [mac80211] kernel: dev_hard_start_xmit+0xb5/0x260 kernel: __dev_queue_xmit+0xdbe/0x1200 kernel: neigh_resolve_output+0x166/0x260 kernel: ip_finish_output2+0x216/0xb80 kernel: __ip_finish_output+0x2a4/0x4d0 kernel: ip_finish_output+0x2d/0xd0 kernel: ip_output+0x82/0x2b0 kernel: ip_local_out+0xec/0x110 kernel: igmpv3_sendpack+0x5c/0x90 kernel: igmp_ifc_timer_expire+0x26e/0x4e0 kernel: call_timer_fn+0xa5/0x230 kernel: run_timer_softirq+0x27f/0x550 kernel: __do_softirq+0xb4/0x3a4 kernel: irq_exit_rcu+0x9b/0xc0 kernel: sysvec_apic_timer_interrupt+0x80/0xa0 kernel: asm_sysvec_apic_timer_interrupt+0x1f/0x30 kernel: _raw_spin_unlock_irqrestore+0x3f/0x70 kernel: free_to_partial_list+0x3d6/0x590 kernel: __slab_free+0x1b7/0x310 kernel: kmem_cache_free+0x52d/0x550 kernel: putname+0x5d/0x70 kernel: do_sys_openat2+0x1d7/0x310 kernel: do_sys_open+0x51/0x80 kernel: __x64_sys_openat+0x24/0x30 kernel: do_syscall_64+0x5c/0x90 kernel: entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x72/0xdc kernel: irq event stamp: 5120729 kernel: hardirqs last enabled at (5120729): [<ffffffff9d149936>] trace_graph_return+0xd6/0x120 kernel: hardirqs last disabled at (5120728): [<ffffffff9d149950>] trace_graph_return+0xf0/0x120 kernel: softirqs last enabled at (5069900): [<ffffffff9cf65b60>] return_to_handler+0x0/0x40 kernel: softirqs last disabled at (5067555): [<ffffffff9cf65b60>] return_to_handler+0x0/0x40 kernel: other info that might help us debug this: kernel: Possible unsafe locking scenario: kernel: CPU0 kernel: ---- kernel: lock(&local->queue_stop_reason_lock); kernel: <Interrupt> kernel: lock(&local->queue_stop_reason_lock); kernel: *** DEADLOCK *** kernel: 8 locks held by kworker/5:0/25656: kernel: #0: ffff9d618009d138 ((wq_completion)events_freezable){+.+.}-{0:0}, at: process_one_work+0x1ca/0x530 kernel: #1: ffffb1ef4637fe68 ((work_completion)(&local->restart_work)){+.+.}-{0:0}, at: process_one_work+0x1ce/0x530 kernel: #2: ffffffff9f166548 (rtnl_mutex){+.+.}-{3:3}, at: return_to_handler+0x0/0x40 kernel: #3: ffff9d6190778728 (&rdev->wiphy.mtx){+.+.}-{3:3}, at: return_to_handler+0x0/0x40 kernel: #4: ffff9d619077b480 (&mvm->mutex){+.+.}-{3:3}, at: return_to_handler+0x0/0x40 kernel: #5: ffff9d61907bacd8 (&trans_pcie->mutex){+.+.}-{3:3}, at: return_to_handler+0x0/0x40 kernel: #6: ffffffff9ef9cda0 (rcu_read_lock){....}-{1:2}, at: iwl_mvm_queue_state_change+0x59/0x3a0 [iwlmvm] kernel: #7: ffffffff9ef9cda0 (rcu_read_lock){....}-{1:2}, at: iwl_mvm_mac_itxq_xmit+0x42/0x210 [iwlmvm] kernel: stack backtrace: kernel: CPU: 5 PID: 25656 Comm: kworker/5:0 Tainted: G W 6.3.0-rc6-mt-20230401-00001-gf86822a1170f #4 kernel: Hardware name: LENOVO 82H8/LNVNB161216, BIOS GGCN51WW 11/16/2022 kernel: Workqueue: events_freezable ieee80211_restart_work [mac80211] kernel: Call Trace: kernel: <TASK> kernel: ? …ting Currently ffa_drv->remove() is called unconditionally from ffa_device_remove(). Since the driver registration doesn't check for it and allows it to be registered without .remove callback, we need to check for the presence of it before executing it from ffa_device_remove() to above a NULL pointer dereference like the one below: | Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 0000000000000000 | Mem abort info: | ESR = 0x0000000086000004 | EC = 0x21: IABT (current EL), IL = 32 bits | SET = 0, FnV = 0 | EA = 0, S1PTW = 0 | FSC = 0x04: level 0 translation fault | user pgtable: 4k pages, 48-bit VAs, pgdp=0000000881cc8000 | [0000000000000000] pgd=0000000000000000, p4d=0000000000000000 | Internal error: Oops: 0000000086000004 [#1] PREEMPT SMP | CPU: 3 PID: 130 Comm: rmmod Not tainted 6.3.0-rc7 #6 | Hardware name: FVP Base RevC (DT) | pstate: 63402809 (nZCv daif +PAN -UAO +TCO +DIT -SSBS BTYPE=-c) | pc : 0x0 | lr : ffa_device_remove+0x20/0x2c | Call trace: | 0x0 | device_release_driver_internal+0x16c/0x260 | driver_detach+0x90/0xd0 | bus_remove_driver+0xdc/0x11c | driver_unregister+0x30/0x54 | ffa_driver_unregister+0x14/0x20 | cleanup_module+0x18/0xeec | __arm64_sys_delete_module+0x234/0x378 | invoke_syscall+0x40/0x108 | el0_svc_common+0xb4/0xf0 | do_el0_svc+0x30/0xa4 | el0_svc+0x2c/0x7c | el0t_64_sync_handler+0x84/0xf0 | el0t_64_sync+0x190/0x194 Fixes: 244f5d5 ("firmware: arm_ffa: Add missing remove callback to ffa_bus_type") Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20230419-ffa_fixes_6-4-v2-1-d9108e43a176@arm.com Signed-off-by: Sudeep Holla <sudeep.holla@arm.com>

If neigh update is running at this time, the following encaps of the flow can't hold the encap_tbl_lock and sleep. If neigh update thread is waiting for that flow's init_done, deadlock happens. Fix it by holding lock outside of the for loop. If neigh update is running, prevent encap flows from offloading. Since the lock is held outside of the for loop, concurrent creation of encap entries is not allowed. So remove unnecessary wait_for_completion call for res_ready. Currently, the per cpu upcall counters are allocated after the vport is created and inserted into the system. …l/git/netfilter/nf Florisn Westphal says: ==================== These are netfilter fixes for the *net* tree. First patch resolves a false-positive lockdep splat: rcu_dereference is used outside of rcu read lock. Let lockdep validate that the transaction mutex is locked. Second patch fixes a kdoc warning added in previous PR. Third patch fixes a memory leak: The catchall element isn't disabled correctly, this allows userspace to deactivate the element again. This results in refcount underflow which in turn prevents memory release. This was always broken since the feature was added in 5.13. Patch 4 fixes an incorrect change in the previous pull request: Adding a duplicate key to a set should work if the duplicate key has expired, restore this behaviour. All from myself. Patch #5 resolves an old historic artifact in sctp conntrack: a 300ms timeout for shutdown_ack. Increase this to 3s. From Xin Long. Patch #6 fixes a sysctl data race in ipvs, two threads can clobber the sysctl value, from Sishuai Gong. This is a day-0 bug that predates git history. Patches 7, 8 and 9, from Pablo Neira Ayuso, are also followups for the previous GC rework in nf_tables: The netlink notifier and the netns exit path must both increment the gc worker seqcount, else worker may encounter stale (free'd) pointers. ================ Signed-off-by: David S. [ Upstream commit b684c09 ] ppc_save_regs() skips one stack frame while saving the CPU register states. Instead of saving current R1, it pulls the previous stack frame pointer. When vmcores caused by direct panic call (such as `echo c > /proc/sysrq-trigger`), are debugged with gdb, gdb fails to show the backtrace correctly. On further analysis, it was found that it was because of mismatch between r1 and NIP. GDB uses NIP to get current function symbol and uses corresponding debug info of that function to unwind previous frames, but due to the mismatching r1 and NIP, the unwinding does not work, and it fails to unwind to the 2nd frame and hence does not show the backtrace. GDB backtrace with vmcore of kernel without this patch: --------- (gdb) bt #0 0xc0000000002a53e8 in crash_setup_regs (oldregs=<optimized out>, newregs=0xc000000004f8f8d8) at ./arch/powerpc/include/asm/kexec.h:69 #1 __crash_kexec (regs=<optimized out>) at kernel/kexec_core.c:974 msm8916-mainline#2 0x0000000000000063 in ?? () msm8916-mainline#3 0xc000000003579320 in ?? () --------- Further analysis revealed that the mismatch occurred because "ppc_save_regs" was saving the previous stack's SP instead of the current r1. This patch fixes this by storing current r1 in the saved pt_regs. GDB backtrace with vmcore of patched kernel: -------- (gdb) bt #0 0xc0000000002a53e8 in crash_setup_regs (oldregs=0x0, newregs=0xc00000000670b8d8) at ./arch/powerpc/include/asm/kexec.h:69 #1 __crash_kexec (regs=regs@entry=0x0) at kernel/kexec_core.c:974 msm8916-mainline#2 0xc000000000168918 in panic (fmt=fmt@entry=0xc000000001654a60 "sysrq triggered crash\n") at kernel/panic.c:358 msm8916-mainline#3 0xc000000000b735f8 in sysrq_handle_crash (key=<optimized out>) at drivers/tty/sysrq.c:155 msm8916-mainline#4 0xc000000000b742cc in __handle_sysrq (key=key@entry=99, check_mask=check_mask@entry=false) at drivers/tty/sysrq.c:602 msm8916-mainline#5 0xc000000000b7506c in write_sysrq_trigger (file=<optimized out>, buf=<optimized out>, count=2, ppos=<optimized out>) at drivers/tty/sysrq.c:1163 msm8916-mainline#6 0xc00000000069a7bc in pde_write (ppos=<optimized out>, count=<optimized out>, buf=<optimized out>, file=<optimized out>, pde=0xc00000000362cb40) at fs/proc/inode.c:340 msm8916-mainline#7 proc_reg_write (file=<optimized out>, buf=<optimized out>, count=<optimized out>, ppos=<optimized out>) at fs/proc/inode.c:352 msm8916-mainline#8 0xc0000000005b3bbc in vfs_write (file=file@entry=0xc000000006aa6b00, buf=buf@entry=0x61f498b4f60 <error: Cannot access memory at address 0x61f498b4f60>, count=count@entry=2, pos=pos@entry=0xc00000000670bda0) at fs/read_write.c:582 msm8916-mainline#9 0xc0000000005b4264 in ksys_write (fd=<optimized out>, buf=0x61f498b4f60 <error: Cannot access memory at address 0x61f498b4f60>, count=2) at fs/read_write.c:637 msm8916-mainline#10 0xc00000000002ea2c in system_call_exception (regs=0xc00000000670be80, r0=<optimized out>) at arch/powerpc/kernel/syscall.c:171 msm8916-mainline#11 0xc00000000000c270 in system_call_vectored_common () at arch/powerpc/kernel/interrupt_64.S:192 -------- Nick adds: So this now saves regs as though it was an interrupt taken in the caller, at the instruction after the call to ppc_save_regs, whereas previously the NIP was there, but R1 came from the caller's caller and that mismatch is what causes gdb's dwarf unwinder to go haywire. A skcipher_request object is made up of struct skcipher_request followed by a variable-sized trailer. The allocation of the skcipher_request and IV in crypt_iv_eboiv_gen is missing the memory for struct skcipher_request. Fix it by adding it to reqsize. …f-times' Eduard Zingerman says: ==================== verify callbacks as if they are called unknown number of times This series updates verifier logic for callback functions handling. Current master simulates callback body execution exactly once, which leads to verifier not detecting unsafe programs like below: static int unsafe_on_zero_iter_cb(__u32 idx, struct num_context *ctx) { ctx->i = 0; return 0; } SEC("?raw_tp") int unsafe_on_zero_iter(void *unused) { struct num_context loop_ctx = { .i = 32 }; __u8 choice_arr[2] = { 0, 1 }; bpf_loop(100, unsafe_on_zero_iter_cb, &loop_ctx, 0); return choice_arr[loop_ctx.i]; } This was reported previously in [0]. The basic idea of the fix is to schedule callback entry state for verification in env->head until some identical, previously visited state in current DFS state traversal is found. Same logic as with open coded iterators, and builds on top recent fixes [1] for those. The series is structured as follows: - patches #1,2,3 update strobemeta, xdp_synproxy selftests and bpf_loop_bench benchmark to allow convergence of the bpf_loop callback states; - patches #4,5 just shuffle the code a bit; - patch #6 is the main part of the series; - patch #7 adds test cases for #6; - patch #8 extend patch #6 with same speculative scalar widening logic, as used for open coded iterators; - patch #9 adds test cases for #8; - patch #10 extends patch #6 to track maximal number of callback executions specifically for bpf_loop(); - patch #11 adds test cases for #10. Veristat results comparing this series to master+patches #1,2,3 using selftests show the following difference: File Program States (A) States (B) States (DIFF) ------------------------- ------------- ---------- ---------- ------------- bpf_loop_bench.bpf.o benchmark 1 2 +1 (+100.00%) pyperf600_bpf_loop.bpf.o on_event 322 407 +85 (+26.40%) strobemeta_bpf_loop.bpf.o on_event 113 151 +38 (+33.63%) xdp_synproxy_kern.bpf.o syncookie_tc 341 291 -50 (-14.66%) xdp_synproxy_kern.bpf.o syncookie_xdp 344 301 -43 (-12.50%) Veristat results comparing this series to master using Tetragon BPF files [2] also show some differences. States diff varies from +2% to +15% on 23 programs out of 186, no new failures. Changelog: - V3 [5] -> V4, changes suggested by Andrii: - validate mark_chain_precision() result in patch #10; - renaming s/cumulative_callback_depth/callback_unroll_depth/. - V2 [4] -> V3: - fixes in expected log messages for test cases: - callback_result_precise; - parent_callee_saved_reg_precise_with_callback; - parent_stack_slot_precise_with_callback; - renamings (suggested by Alexei): - s/callback_iter_depth/cumulative_callback_depth/ - s/is_callback_iter_next/calls_callback/ - s/mark_callback_iter_next/mark_calls_callback/ - prepare_func_exit() updated to exit with -EFAULT when callee->in_callback_fn is true but calls_callback() is not true for callsite; - test case 'bpf_loop_iter_limit_nested' rewritten to use return value check instead of verifier log message checks (suggested by Alexei). - V1 [3] -> V2, changes suggested by Andrii: - small changes for error handling code in __check_func_call(); - callback body processing log is now matched in relevant verifier_subprog_precision.c tests; - R1 passed to bpf_loop() is now always marked as precise; - log level 2 message for bpf_loop() iteration termination instead of iteration depth messages; - __no_msg macro removed; - bpf_loop_iter_limit_nested updated to avoid using __no_msg; - commit message for patch #3 updated according to Alexei's request. When scanning namespaces, it is possible to get valid data from the first call to nvme_identify_ns() in nvme_alloc_ns(), but not from the second call in nvme_update_ns_info_block(). In particular, if the NSID becomes inactive between the two commands, a storage device may return a buffer filled with zero as per 4.1.5.1. In this case, we can get a kernel crash due to a divide-by-zero in blk_stack_limits() because ns->lba_shift will be set to zero. When creating ceq_0 during probing irdma, cqp.sc_cqp will be sent as a cqp_request to cqp->sc_cqp.sq_ring. If the request is pending when removing the irdma driver or unplugging its aux device, cqp.sc_cqp will be dereferenced as wrong struct in irdma_free_pending_cqp_request(). I conducted real-time testing and observed that madvise_cold_or_pageout_pte_range() causes significant latency under memory pressure, which can be effectively reduced by adding cond_resched() within the loop. I tested on the LicheePi 4A board using Cylictest for latency testing and Ftrace for latency tracing. The board uses TH1520 processor and has a memory size of 8GB. The kernel version is 6.5.0 with the PREEMPT_RT patch applied. The script I tested is as follows: echo wakeup_rt > /sys/kernel/tracing/current_tracer echo 1 > /sys/kernel/tracing/tracing_on echo 0 > /sys/kernel/tracing/tracing_max_latency stress-ng --vm 8 --vm-bytes 2G & cyclictest --mlockall --smp --priority=99 --distance=0 --duration=30m echo 0 > /sys/kernel/tracing/tracing_on cat /sys/kernel/tracing/trace The tracing results before modification are as follows: # tracer: wakeup_rt # # wakeup_rt latency trace v1.1.5 on 6.5.0-rt6-r1208-00003-g999d221864bf # -------------------------------------------------------------------- # latency: 2552 us, msm8916-mainline#6/6, CPU#3 | (M:preempt_rt VP:0, KP:0, SP:0 HP:0 #P:4) # ----------------- # | task: cyclictest-196 (uid:0 nice:0 policy:1 rt_prio:99) # ----------------- # # _--------=> CPU# # / _-------=> irqs-off/BH-disabled # | / _------=> need-resched # || / _-----=> need-resched-lazy # ||| / _----=> hardirq/softirq # |||| / _---=> preempt-depth # ||||| / _--=> preempt-lazy-depth # |||||| / _-=> migrate-disable # ||||||| / delay # cmd pid |||||||| time | caller # \ / |||||||| \ | / stress-n-206 3dn.h512 2us : 206:120:R + [003] 196: 0:R cyclictest stress-n-206 3dn.h512 7us : <stack trace> => __ftrace_trace_stack => __trace_stack => probe_wakeup => ttwu_do_activate => try_to_wake_up => wake_up_process => hrtimer_wakeup => __hrtimer_run_queues => hrtimer_interrupt => riscv_timer_interrupt => handle_percpu_devid_irq => generic_handle_domain_irq => riscv_intc_irq => handle_riscv_irq => do_irq stress-n-206 3dn.h512 9us#: 0 stress-n-206 3d...3.. 2544us : __schedule stress-n-206 3d...3.. 2545us : 206:120:R ==> [003] 196: 0:R cyclictest stress-n-206 3d...3.. 2551us : <stack trace> => __ftrace_trace_stack => __trace_stack => probe_wakeup_sched_switch => __schedule => preempt_schedule => migrate_enable => rt_spin_unlock => madvise_cold_or_pageout_pte_range => walk_pgd_range => __walk_page_range => walk_page_range => madvise_pageout => madvise_vma_behavior => do_madvise => sys_madvise => do_trap_ecall_u => ret_from_exception The tracing results after modification are as follows: # tracer: wakeup_rt # # wakeup_rt latency trace v1.1.5 on 6.5.0-rt6-r1208-00004-gca3876fc69a6-dirty # -------------------------------------------------------------------- # latency: 1689 us, msm8916-mainline#6/6, CPU#0 | (M:preempt_rt VP:0, KP:0, SP:0 HP:0 #P:4) # ----------------- # | task: cyclictest-217 (uid:0 nice:0 policy:1 rt_prio:99) # ----------------- # # _--------=> CPU# # / _-------=> irqs-off/BH-disabled # | / _------=> need-resched # || / _-----=> need-resched-lazy # ||| / _----=> hardirq/softirq # |||| / _---=> preempt-depth # ||||| / _--=> preempt-lazy-depth # |||||| / _-=> migrate-disable # ||||||| / delay # cmd pid |||||||| time | caller # \ / |||||||| \ | / stress-n-232 0dn.h413 1us+: 232:120:R + [000] 217: 0:R cyclictest stress-n-232 0dn.h413 12us : <stack trace> => __ftrace_trace_stack => __trace_stack => probe_wakeup => ttwu_do_activate => try_to_wake_up => wake_up_process => hrtimer_wakeup => __hrtimer_run_queues => hrtimer_interrupt => riscv_timer_interrupt => handle_percpu_devid_irq => generic_handle_domain_irq => riscv_intc_irq => handle_riscv_irq => do_irq stress-n-232 0dn.h413 19us#: 0 stress-n-232 0d...3.. 1671us : __schedule stress-n-232 0d...3.. 1676us+: 232:120:R ==> [000] 217: 0:R cyclictest stress-n-232 0d...3.. 1687us : <stack trace> => __ftrace_trace_stack => __trace_stack => probe_wakeup_sched_switch => __schedule => preempt_schedule => migrate_enable => free_unref_page_list => release_pages => free_pages_and_swap_cache => tlb_batch_pages_flush => tlb_flush_mmu => unmap_page_range => unmap_vmas => unmap_region => do_vmi_align_munmap.constprop.0 => do_vmi_munmap => __vm_munmap => sys_munmap => do_trap_ecall_u => ret_from_exception After the modification, the cause of maximum latency is no longer madvise_cold_or_pageout_pte_range(), so this modification can reduce the latency caused by madvise_cold_or_pageout_pte_range(). Currently the madvise_cold_or_pageout_pte_range() function exhibits significant latency under memory pressure, which can be effectively reduced by adding cond_resched() within the loop. When the batch_count reaches SWAP_CLUSTER_MAX, we reschedule the task to ensure fairness and avoid long lock holding times. …te_call_indirect kprobe_emulate_call_indirect currently uses int3_emulate_call to emulate indirect calls. However, int3_emulate_call always assumes the size of the call to be 5 bytes when calculating the return address. This is incorrect for register-based indirect calls in x86, which can be either 2 or 3 bytes depending on whether REX prefix is used. At kprobe runtime, the incorrect return address causes control flow to land onto the wrong place after return -- possibly not a valid instruction boundary. This can lead to a panic like the following: [ 7.308204][ C1] BUG: unable to handle page fault for address: 000000000002b4d8 [ 7.308883][ C1] #PF: supervisor read access in kernel mode [ 7.309168][ C1] #PF: error_code(0x0000) - not-present page [ 7.309461][ C1] PGD 0 P4D 0 [ 7.309652][ C1] Oops: 0000 [#1] SMP [ 7.309929][ C1] CPU: 1 PID: 0 Comm: swapper/1 Not tainted 6.7.0-rc5-trace-for-next #6 [ 7.310397][ C1] Hardware name: QEMU Standard PC (i440FX + PIIX, 1996), BIOS 1.16.0-20220807_005459-localhost 04/01/2014 [ 7.311068][ C1] RIP: 0010:__common_interrupt+0x52/0xc0 [ 7.311349][ C1] Code: 01 00 4d 85 f6 74 39 49 81 fe 00 f0 ff ff 77 30 4c 89 f7 4d 8b 5e 68 41 ba 91 76 d8 42 45 03 53 fc 74 02 0f 0b cc ff d3 65 48 <8b> 05 30 c7 ff 7e 65 4c 89 3d 28 c7 ff 7e 5b 41 5c 41 5e 41 5f c3 [ 7.312512][ C1] RSP: 0018:ffffc900000e0fd0 EFLAGS: 00010046 [ 7.312899][ C1] RAX: 0000000000000001 RBX: 0000000000000023 RCX: 0000000000000001 [ 7.313334][ C1] RDX: 00000000000003cd RSI: 0000000000000001 RDI: ffff888100d302a4 [ 7.313702][ C1] RBP: 0000000000000001 R08: 0ef439818636191f R09: b1621ff338a3b482 [ 7.314146][ C1] R10: ffffffff81e5127b R11: ffffffff81059810 R12: 0000000000000023 [ 7.314509][ C1] R13: 0000000000000000 R14: ffff888100d30200 R15: 0000000000000000 [ 7.314951][ C1] FS: 0000000000000000(0000) GS:ffff88813bc80000(0000) knlGS:0000000000000000 [ 7.315396][ C1] CS: 0010 DS: 0000 ES: 0000 CR0: 0000000080050033 [ 7.315691][ C1] CR2: 000000000002b4d8 CR3: 0000000003028003 CR4: 0000000000370ef0 [ 7.316153][ C1] DR0: 0000000000000000 DR1: 0000000000000000 DR2: 0000000000000000 [ 7.316508][ C1] DR3: 0000000000000000 DR6: 00000000fffe0ff0 DR7: 0000000000000400 [ 7.316948][ C1] Call Trace: [ 7.317123][ C1] <IRQ> [ 7.317279][ C1] ? This in turn causes incorrect subsequent instruction decoding and eventually triggers the page fault above. Instead of invoking int3_emulate_call, perform push and jmp emulation directly in kprobe_emulate_call_indirect. At this point we can obtain the instruction size from p->ainsn.size so that we can calculate the correct return address.
