"Deleting the calendar in {countdown}" #1279
Comments
Well, a task list is a calendar, so this is not confusing but exactly what is meant. But judging from your screenshot, you mean a list from Deck, right? In that case we could indeed name it like this exlicitly, although I don't know whether we can determine if it a list from Deck or really a calendar. Edit: Since lists from Deck are read-only at the moment afaik, deleting them should not be possible at all in the first place. |
The average Joe's definition of a 'calendar' in software like this is something with events on rather than tasks that can be marked as completed— ergo it is confusing to average users rather than admins or devs, this is feedback from real users who are trying to get to grips with Nextcloud. Yes, this is a list from Deck. |
Please do not forget that you are not the only "real user" of Nextcloud. Others might have a different understanding of how things work.
We got lots of complaints from people deleting a "task list" and suddenly actually losing their important calendar, not realising a task list is a calendar. CalDAV calendars can store both events and tasks and will appear in both the Calendar app and the Tasks app as a "calendar" or "list", respectively. Since it is the same thing, deleting it means losing both events and tasks. This is what we want to make clear by using the term "calendar" rather than "list" when deleting. And while I can see that you are confused, I am afraid it is not due to the terminology, but rather due to a missing understanding of the relation explained above. I know this relation might be a bit unexpected, but we can not change how CalDAV (the underlying standard allowing to sync with devices and apps) works, even though it confuses "average Joe". However, I agree we can still try to improve the terminology a bit:

Mentions a 'calendar', this is really confusing for users as they think they're deleting a calendar rather than a list, and ultimately panic, and undo the deletion.
