EdgeRouter Issues (Continuation from Support Chat)

Thanks @rs. uninstalled, installed then re-conf accepting all defaults.

on the router side:

a) what do I set for the LAN's DHCP:

b) for the system name server?

c) I'd like to use caching at router level, and I have it blank under DNS config

The CLI should set up everything correctly.

the CLI does not change the settings visible in the GUI. unless it is rendering them useless, which is a different thing. pls advise, just so I can try to keep my sanity while dealing with this.

as for the fix, it worked for a while, i am not sure if i got any errors, i didnt' have time to check. it stopped working (status running but dns does not resolve and had to be restarted. i cant run the diag when dns isn't resolving so... pls advise on what to do next time dns resolution stops.

It does not change the UI but replaces the default DNS forwarder, so you should not have anything to change here.

now what do I do next time DNS stops working (when I say stops working, I can't even use dig when I SSH into the router itself.

It should not stop working unless you internet is down. Try the snapshot, it should fix the issue.

of course it shouldn't unless internet is not down. since i can ping 8.8.8.8 it is not down, and a simple restart fixes it.

sorry, i've spent quite a bit of time on this if you guys can't be more proactive in solving this, instead of substance less replies, i am just going to request a refund and walk away. thanks very much but no, your product doesn't work well enough for me.

The snapshot provided above is trying to fix your issue. It will be released soon even if you don't test it, but you will still need to upgrade the CLI.

I installed the snapshot given AND upgraded the cli. I wrote

"as for the fix, it worked for a while, i am not sure if i got any errors, i didnt' have time to check. it stopped working " in #591 (comment)

What do you get in the logs nextdns log when it fails?
