Is the ninja-ide project still being actively maintained in 2022? #2141
Comments
I put some suggested fixes in my fork: https://github.com/samurai-ide/samurai-ide https://samurai-ide.org I tried to buy ninja-ide.org went it went up for auction but the auction price went too high when it ended only days ago. If someone here outbid me that's too bad that I bid it up, but I had no way of knowing if someone legitimate or a squatter was trying to buy it it since there was zero communication about it (or much else) here. |
I apologize for the late message. I plan to resume the project this year, I really want. My work demands a lot of time and I couldn't dedicate myself to Ninja-IDE. I hope you understand. Maybe it is worth rewriting most of Ninja-IDE because there are new versions of Python, PyQt/PySide and many new tools that can serve. Any questions, feature request, don't hesitate to open an issue, I will be attentive. Best regards ❤️ |
@centaurialpha If you told people you needed help paying around $10 USD per year for the domain, that would've been better than the domain being auctioned off for over $300 USD making it basically impossible to get back since the new owner will probably want thousands for it at that rate. Did you even get that money? |
I'm sorry, but I don't handle the website, I have no idea what happened. |
My website comments were a different issue though related. I accidentally posted here. I've continued the website conversation at #2111. Back on topic, I'd like more explanation of the governance of this project. When I tried Ninja-IDE back in 2010 I had to stop using it because the autocomplete feature was eating code and there were seldom any releases. To this day, there are still seldom any releases. How can I be sure bugs like that are addressed, when issues aren't answered? @centaurialpha I can tell you care about the project but is it just you? If I helped, would that even do any good if people with more authority than you in the project don't have our backs? Like when the $10/yr domain now will cost hundreds or more to restore (It will now cost money for a Godaddy broker and there is a chance that the seller won't even sell it and the broker fee will be unrecoverable in that case), and the plugin system inside the program now has permanently dead links that may end up being directed to viruses or porn? With an IDE, the quality of my code depends on the quality of your code. So, who is running this project? The website used to have a cute list of "ninjas" but it isn't so cute if we don't know who we can count on. Please update the readme and explain who is in what role and whether they are currently active in the project. |
First, @Poikilos thanks for your interest in Ninja-IDE. I am away from home, as soon as I return in a couple of hours, I will answer with pleasure. |
@Poikilos the nerve you have to demand answers and explanations from a free and open source project, amazes me. |
@pmourelle There are several issues like this, and I didn't post them. Also, I indicated I may be willing to help centaurialpha and to put up money to save the domain and when asking a question I said "please." |
Hi! again. I apologize for the delay. I have decided that I will spend a little time a week to plan the future of Ninja-IDE. My goal is for development to be activated during the next months. Im not sure if it will be necessary to rewrite the architecture, but I want to take the time to be sure (I will update the readme with this). Soon I will plan some tasks to start receiving contributions and comments. So it is patient and I hope that many developers join. Best regards! |
Hello everyone! I have created a GitHub project (WIP) to go over the whole administrative issue, catharsis, whatever, before planning a roadmap. At this stage I imagine there is not going to be any code, I just want to make sure I have things planned. The next iteration that follows after this is going to be to start coding an MVP and go out into the world again! Please make sure to comment, criticize, whatever, it's all welcome. (I'm going to put this in the readme). Best regards! |
It looks from the main page there haven't been any stable releases since 2019. Does this project still have active maintainers and developers? Thanks.
