Welcome to the Nixpkgs design wiki!

Here we accumulate knowledge about the potential future design of various parts of Nixpkgs. The audience for this documentation is Nixpkgs developers who are interested in making changes to the "core" of Nixpkgs or improve existing patterns.

You are encouraged to contribute "user" documentation to the relevant manuals. An example of a user is someone who contributes a package, or makes a change to a service in NixOS. Documentation describing the current Nixpkgs architecture itself should go into the Nixpkgs manual instead.
