Sydney: @DamonOehlman @rprieto @cgiffard @nicholasf @rvagg (who have I missed?) |
Melbourne: @pomke @SomeoneWeird @wolfeidau (I know I'm missing a bunch of #polyhack crew here, can ppl add them please?) |
Hobart: "@joshgillies", bodacious |
Brisbane: @timoxley (not really, but knows ppl there), @pyrotechnick @MauriceButler @AnnaGerber @KoryNunn |
@balupton are you in the country? can we put you down for Sydney too? |
Hm, I've got Singapore NodeSchool happening June 15… maybe if you're yet to announce date you could bring it forward one week and we could do united AU/SG NodeSchool day? http://www.meetup.com/Singapore-JS/events/174971982/ |
@Kevdesign will probably want to help out for Brisbane, maybe as a brisjs related thing? |
Im keen. |
Represent! |
We can do it as part of June MelbNodeJs meetup - it's nearly one month away from next scheduled one (May27th). |
Yeah more than happy to help out at the Melbourne one. |
^^ Happy to help with Melbourne one too, how many people do you think would show up? |
Hi, Sure - I'm happy to come along to NodeSchool and help out where I can in Cheers, On Thu, May 15, 2014 at 12:15 PM, Adam Brady notifications@github.comwrote:

Schedule is looking a little cloudy: I might have some stuff on then — but if I'm free I'm happy to come along. Also @JedWatson might be interested too. |
@timoxley the 14th of June is also a possibility but my original preference was for the 21st of June for selfish reasons, I'll be coming home from the US a few days earlier and will be jetlagged and not enthusiastic about anything. The actual date is in NICTA's (@DamonOehlman) hands atm. What are the chances of changing your meetup date to the next weekend and we can do an Asia Pacific one and rope in NZ too! /cc @chilts |
Definitely in! Both the 14th and 27th work for me in Sydney. @timoxley how did you go about funding the Singapore event? Is it sponsored by anyone, and is there a standard "NodeSchool sponsorship package"? Otherwise I was about to prepare 1 or 2 very-low-overhead deals to raise some moneys in Sydney. |
@rprieto we have a sponsor providing the venue, so that's the biggest expense taken care of. We'll try get sponsors for catering but if not I'll just pay for it myself. |
if we can, I'd love to be projecting live-streams of each others venues in a shared Google Hangout while we're doing this, purely for the community value! |
That would be great for bragging purposes. |
I'm in! (Sydney) @rvagg love the live-streams idea. |
SydJS is on next Wednesday (May 21st) so if we lock in the Sydney dates & details by then we can promote it there. |
Live streaming sounds awesome! |
Sounds great! I'm running node + Johnny-Five workshops for The Edge in Brisbane on both June 14th and 21st, so can't do those dates but would be happy to help spread the word. |
Would love to do this. May be in Berlin throughout June for Hacker Retreat. Will post with an update when details are confirmed. |
Absolutely - @BrisJS can definitely help with this. Cheers for the ping @KoryNunn @MauriceButler |
please add yourselves to this wiki page: https://github.com/nodeschool/discussions/wiki/NodeSchool-Australia-201406 It's missing locations and coordinators for most places and I don't want to speak for too many people so I've only inserted a few of us that I'm fairly sure will be involved. Put yourself down as a mentor or lurker, only put yourself as a coordinator if you really have the ability to pull something together which includes finding a location, sponsors (if required), refreshments, coordinating mentors, coming up with a plan of attack etc. Not a trivial job. Would be a good job for more than one person if you are able to effectively coordinate together. Keep communication in this issue because we can't do effective communication in the wiki. |
Assuming we lock in the 21st we can likely get sponsorship for both space and catering. /ping @jonnyscholes and @MattMS as potential mentors/collaborators for this event. |
Nearly forgot to mention, if we can lock in dates soon I'll be able to promote this event through the @wd42 "meetup" I'm involved in "running". Far out man! |
We're also going to need to organise NodeSchool stickers to be delivered to everyone, I'll reach out to coordinators for that when we have people in place. |
@MauriceButler no problems, we'll try and do this again soon and make sure it lines up for you |
Melbourne is ready ( venue, food, mentors ) but I really don't have enough time to track everything ( ti.to setup / announcements etc ) so if anyone keen to help I'd appreciate |
@MauriceButler thanks for the update anyway! It will be cool to hear how the other ones go. Hopefully I can score a sticker off @joshgillies or @jonnyscholes when I'm back in Tassie too :) |
@cgiffard can we add you as a mentor? |
There's a possibility I won't make it. I might have to fly to Melbourne next weekend. Sent from my iPhone On 14/06/2014, at 4:54 PM, Rod Vagg notifications@github.com wrote:

@nicholasf would be great to see you in Melbourne! |
Ha, thanks! I might have to clean out my apartment. Will let you know. Sent from my iPhone On 14/06/2014, at 7:21 PM, Andrey Sidorov notifications@github.com wrote:

I now have 1000 of the quality hexagon NodeSchool stickers from StickerMule in my possession! Will be sending some out to @sidorares and @joshgillies this week but if anybody needs stickers for a NodeSchool event in AU this weekend or any time beyond please let me know and I'll send you stickers. Getting them shipped to AU isn't the cheapest thing so I figured I'd do a big batch and share them around. |
Great news! Do you know if there's a handy source of mixed JS stickers in Australia so we could add a few more random stickers? |
@rprieto unfortunately my supplies got all gobbled up at campjs. I'll make a point of bringing home npm and any other stickers I can get my hands on when I'm over in a few weeks but sadly that'll be too late for this NodeSchool! |
@rvagg etc. Unfortunately I'm out for this Saturday. I'm flying down to On Mon, Jun 16, 2014 at 10:27 AM, Rod Vagg notifications@github.com wrote:

@nicholasf that sucks but I understand. Need your help pressuring @cgiffard to come along too, mentor list is a little thin for Syd at the moment. |
Hey @rvagg - both @cgiffard and I have been down with the flu. I’ve cancelled my Melbourne flights. Hoping to go to work tomorrow, in which case I’ll be able to mentor on Saturday. I’m not a definite yet though. On 16 Jun 2014, at 10:40 am, Rod Vagg notifications@github.com wrote:

@nicholasf Sucks that you've been sick, but it will be great if you can be there on the day :) |

struts around like a heron In all seriousness — just confirming that I will be present. But late. :) |
@rvagg is latest version of your slides still http://r.va.gg/presentations/campjs-learn-you-node ? I'd like to use them in intro presentation. |
@sidorares yes, that's what I'll use, source is here if you want to make modifications: https://github.com/rvagg/rvagg.github.com/tree/master/presentations/campjs-learn-you-node |
Is there a central news/promotional page we can flood social media with? |
Ok - I'll just push out the events page. Thanks. |
@eddieajau feel free to use http://r.va.gg/2014/06/nodeschool-comes-to-australia.html if you need to share more detail, it never made it to a nodejs.org.au post unfortunately. |
Are we putting on a shared Google Hangout or similar during the event? |
@joshgillies that's still a/the plan! Will send you and @sidorares a Hangout link when we're set up on our end. |
Well done to all of you, it was a great event! Well organised, and all the mentors were on top of every questions (at least, the one I had!!) Looking forward to the next one! I was wondering if some of you would be interested to organise a Nodecopter event (http://nodecopter.com/), along the same lines as Nodeschool. @Bondifrench We'll be doing nodebotsau next month (26/7) which is probably exactly what you are looking for :) |
@pajarraco I like to make the node school running in Brisbane I very new in the city but I sure I can find a place to do it, the foot can be optional and the drinks let see. I just need a date. Any one interest please let me know |
While we have a NodeSchool-type event happening at CampJS in a couple of weeks we're also targeting a coordinated Australia-wide (ish) NodeSchool day in cities that have people willing and able to pull one together. The coordination ought to help with marketing and building a greater sense of Node community around the country.
Our current target is the 21st of June (pending final confirmation soon from NICTA Sydney that we can host there) and we likely have enough interest so far to pull in Sydney, Melbourne (needs organiser) and Hobart. The more the merrier though.
Initial goal here is to gather interested parties that are capable of organising an event in their city (or town, or kitchen table) or are interested in helping organise.
I'm going to add a bunch of comments now with people that come to mind in various places that could rope in others, sorry if this gets spammy but GitHub has mention limits.
