Welcome to the cat-wiki wiki! Naming things is hard, alright?

Getting Started

Since you're reading this, I'm going to assume you can read this. In order to be able to edit it, you need a github account. Once you have an account set up, ping Mark with your info and he'll get you added as a collaborator.

Once you are added, you should see an edit button and a new page button near the top right. The web editor has a few controls, and will let you preview your changes. Offline editing is also possible, via git. Pages are written in github flavored markdown. There's also a cheat sheet which is much more readable and summarizes the most important features. Clicking the edit button will also show you the markdown for the page you're on, which can be a good way to learn.

When editing, you'll have an option to add an "edit message" or "commit message". You don't have to fill this out, but if you do, it should be a short description of what you changed. This can later be viewed as a log of the history of a page (that's kind of what git does).

Links are the core of a wiki, and there are two ways to add them. External links, to any URL, can be added by putting the title in square brackets and the URL in parenthesis after:

[Link Title](https://example.com)

Internal links use a double square bracket, with an optional title:

[[Internal Page]]
[[another page|Link Title]]

You can use this feature to add new pages, by creating a link to a page that doesn't exist yet. After you save your changes, that will show up as a red link, and following it will put you into the editor for that page. From there you can add whatever you want to. There's also a new page button near the top right.
