October was created by [Alexey Bobkov](https://www.linkedin.com/in/alexey-bobkov-232ba02b/) and [Samuel Georges](https://www.linkedin.com/in/samuel-georges-0a964131/), who both continue to develop the platform.

The maintenance of October is lead by [Luke Towers](https://luketowers.ca/), along with many wonderful people that dedicate their time to help support and grow the community.

In November 2019, Luke and one other maintainer started an almost identical business called "October CMF" and used their position in the community to promote this project fork to all customers. Prior to this, Alexey and I had been working on the business side of October CMS, building connections with partners and working on marketing for years. The fork was damaging for those connections and for the community's trust.

We explored multiple ways to move forward, and took the opportunity to revisit the business structure to prevent similar problems in the future and to place the enterprise on a firmer financial footing.

For the past year or so, we have monitored the project from a distance without being too involved to avoid further conflict. During this time, we also worked on a private copy of October CMS.

We rebuilt the organisational structure to become more compact, more manageable and more resistant to being "captured" by a section of the community working collaboratively with us. If we need to extend by engaging with more people, it will be on a more traditional employee-employer basis.

It is important to know that Alexey and I have always worked together, mostly in private. People may have different perceptions about this, including negative perceptions regarding our lack of engagement. Both of us have been working on this project for its entire lifespan. We will continue to do so.
