@jfirebaugh -

Now that Foursquare has launched their OSM edit button how can we track any people coming in through this edit button on Foursquare?

@tomhughes pointed me earlier to this documentation on tracking campaigns (osm.org uses piwik):

I'm not sure what the purpose of this bug is? The URL you need to change is not on our site, it's on the Foursquare site - just add a pk_campaign parameter to it and we will be able to track it in piwik.

@tomhughes - so this would be good?

pk_campaign=foursquare-edit

Yeah - pretty much anything is fine as we haven't really used it at all until now. We pick up a few things via piwik's compatibility with google style utm parameters but nothing much.

Can we do anything to measure wehether those users end up creating accounts, confirming e-mail, then editing?

I'm happy to write a pull req to do this, just wondering if you'd be willing to set up the funnels, etc. @tomhughes.

Why would you need a pull request? We already have a goal that is triggered by account creation that we can hopefully match against the campaign.

Funnels in piwik are pretty ropey - we do have the Funnel plugin installed by it's not being maintained by anybody and it keeps breaking when we upgrade and I've never had much luck trying to get a funnel for account creation working with it.

I asked Foursquare to set up pk_campaign=foursquare-edit. Thanks for helping me think through this.

Does the standard http referrer parameter not already do the same? I.e. allow you to see from where users have originated? What is the advantage of using pk_campaign? Do these OSM edit links only appear on their website, or also through mobile apps?
