The interface needs to expose two fields when the mesh over wired option is clicked to let the user specify a ip address and a netmask. If these are defined then the device can mesh over the ethernet interface as desired. This seems like a easy enough fix to this problem that does not raise the bar too high for new users since it is on the alternate path in the setup wizard.
Setting the dhcp of the wired interface to "auto" dhcp with "meshing" enabled also seems to kill the olsrd process so we will either have to fix the hotplug scripts that cause this or to force static ip adderess/netmask on nodes wired interfaces that are meshing and have it turn off the automatic option.

Meshing over eth0 does not work currently.
