Consider the following use case: I use my device as an offline reader for PDFs that I find throughout the day on my desktop. When I find a document that I want to read later, I copy it to an ownCloud-shared folder. When I get to my Android device, I want all files collected during the day to be available on it, even in offline mode.

Currently I have to perform the following tiresome sequence on the device:

  1. Press "Update" and wait until finishes
  2. Open the folder used to store new documents
  3. Click on each of the documents so that it gets downloaded and opened in a PDF viewer
  4. Close the viewer and proceed to the next file.

When there are more than a couple of new files this sequence becomes a really boring thing to do.

What I want to suggest is that certain folders can be marked as auto-update, just like it can be done for individual files today. The above scenario becomes much more simple:
0. Mark a folder as "auto-update" (once)

  1. Press "Update" and wait until all new files are downloaded to the device.

First of all, many thanks to all of you spending all the time to write such beautiful software.

Following grigory-rechistov comment I have to state, that I have absolutely the same issue.

Therefore I would be very happy, if someone who is involved in the development of the android client could push this topic.

In principle such a possibility of selecting several files to be syncted with the client or yust displaed in the explorer and acessed directly on the server would also be a great feature for the desktop client of owncloud. sometimes one has a very big owncloud account and does not need all date, which is stored on the server on all clients...

Thx

I like the idea of having a folder(e.g. on my notebook) which is automatically synced to my phone without user activity.

This is the way dropsync works and it is very handy. Having this function would greatly aid in using owncloud for what I intend to use it for, which is making sure that not so technically savvy coworkers have the latest files on their devices without input. Requiring them to manually set individual files to update simply isn't going to happen. It needs to be automated by folder.
