With 4.5.5 I'm seeing numerous duplicates of existing files in the files_versions folder (i.e., an exact copy of the actual file in the files folder or in custom mounts) exists in the files_versions folder. These might also be remainders from previous versions, it's an upgraded installation. Most of such files I found were pictures (jpg). But I also see quite a few conflict_* files in the files_versions folder which got copied in such a way (I definitely did not edit them, I just deleted them).

Is this intended behavior? if so, anybody care to explain the reason? To me it just seems wasted disk space (especially when e.g. a custom mount is mounted for multiple users - would then each user have his own copy of the file in his files_versions directory?

If not, will it be fixed with #860? Can I simply delete such files?

This came up in the forum today: http://forum.owncloud.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7407

The behavior of files_versions was changed in stable45 so it shouldn't create versions when external storage is mounted, until the files are changed.

The conflict files shouldn't be in there though.

So I guess it it safe to simply delete such duplicates?
