Warning: Running on unsupported version of gnome shell

You might have reached this page by clicking on a warning notification like "Running on unsupported version of gnome shell". This notification appears because the gnome shell version you are running is not officially supported by the branch/commit of PaperWM you have checked out locally.

If you freshly install PaperWM you should not see this notification because the version compatibility should be check during installation. However if you later update PaperWM or Gnome it is possible you will encounter this notification.

Approaches to resolve the warning

In case there are no further error notifications from PaperWM, you can likely ignore the warning. However it is possible that some of the functionality of PaperWM does not work correctly. If you are running the latest Gnome version, please also report any bugs you find. We will update PaperWM with new Gnome Shell versions if we are confident that PaperWM properly works on it (and have resolved most major bugs).

However, if you also get error notifications, it likely means that PaperWM can't run on the version of Gnome you have installed. In this case you can probably update (i.e. git pull/checkout) PaperWM to a branch that supports your Gnome Shell version. See the README for a list of which branch of PaperWM supports which Gnome shell version. The develop branch only supports the latest Gnome Shell version(s).
