Since about 2 weeks ago, the "inhibit screensaver" doesn't work. When launched from Terminal, I get the following error message:
(pithos:8076): Gtk-WARNING **: 08:08:11.235: Calling org.xfce.Session.Manager.Inhibit failed: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod: No such method “Inhibit”

Assuming you have a recent version all of this is a detail in GTK3 that talks to the desktop specific services. In that case it could be an issue with the xfce-session project or GTK3.
