Look into ITK/VTK plugins -- may be useful since can be bundled together in
python(x,y).

Might want to consider pyglet. Its pure python opengl implementation wouldn't
require any dependencies.

Will enter pyglet suggestion from previous comment as separate issue.

Even if don't have full plug-in for ITK/VTK, at least good documentation on how to
use together would be desirable.

Discovered this: https://code.google.com/p/wrapitk/ . Seems like a useful way to
connect pydicom to ITK.

Summary: Look into ITK/VTK connection

Closing this to focus pydicom on pydicom core issues. Can't find an active wrapitk so not sure of its status.
