This is @benoitbryon's #1946 rebased on to the latest develop branch @ 5addd1b.

I was going to send the PR to him, but his fork doesn't show up for me in the GitHub UI when I open a PR.

Note this might have conflicts again if #2232 gets merged.

…endencies()' to 'pip.util.get_recursive_dependencies()'. This function now takes a list of positional arguments (was a list as first positional argument).

We figured out how to fix up #1946 so let's close this, as it's a dup of that one.
