When you have "Create subfolder for torrents with multiple files" checked in the Downloads settings, and download only one file in a multi-file torrent, a subfolder is still created.
What is the expected behavior
I expect (or maybe want) that this setting should take into account how many files are selected for download, as opposed to how many files are in the torrent in total
Steps to reproduce
Go into the settings, click on the "Downloads" button at the left, and check the box labeled"Create subfolder for torrents with multiple files"
Download a torrent with multiple files, but deselect all files but one
A subfolder is created.
Extra info(if any)
I'm not sure if this is a bug, per se, or just behavior that isn't what's expected...
There are many times, though, where there's a torrent with two files, "file.ext" and "Downloaded from foobar.nfo", and I will only select the "file.ext" file, but qBittorrent still creates a subfolder. I get why it's doing it, but I don't think that setting is accomplishing the spirit of what the user wants to have done.

This issue has been closed and locked for being too old, and thus either most likely resolved in recent versions or no longer applicable.
If you experience the reported problem or similar in the latest version, please open a new issue report with the requested information in the issue template.
A new issue report with relevant updated data gathered from the latest version is preferable to necroing an old report with a comment like "still happens in version x.y.z", even if you think the bug is the same, or suspect of a regression.
Due to the changes made to the qBittorrent code and its dependencies over time, the exact cause of your problem could be totally different than the original one, despite the visible symptoms of the bug being similar.
Thus, providing relevant updated information is crucial to find and fix the root cause of a recurrent problem or regression.
