The Layer Metadata Search Panel
===============================

The layer metadata search panel allows to browse layers metadata
from registered metadata providers and add them to the project.

The list can be filtered by text, by current project and by map canvas extent.

The sources of metadata are implemented through a layer metadata provider
system that can be extended by plugins.

QGIS provides out of the box the layer metadata providers that retrieve
the metadata from the connections that allow for metadata storage
(for more details :ref:`save metadata to the database <savemetadatatodb>`).
