Extracting plantuml source from image

One of my favourite features with plantuml is the ability to take an image diagram emailed to you, extract the source plantuml, edit it, produce a new image diagram, and return the diagram. Great when working collaboratively. I don't see any support for this in the extension.
It's easy to do from the commandline.
java -jar plantuml.jar -metadata image.png
What's your thoughts about adding this feature?
If you are happy for this to be a feature, and need help, I would be happy to code the feature.
