Madpdf intends to be the PDF viewer par excellence for e-ink e-book readers!

Please feel free to join the project, and contribute code to Madpdf to implement whatever features you’ve always wanted in your e-book reader.

This wiki will be used to coordinate development, in order that we don’t find ourselves working at cross-purposes.
Here are a few points to remember:

  • Madpdf should be made as to provide a comfortable viewing experience for technical documents, large PDFs (such as maps, which require advanced zooming and panning), as well as for e-books. Madpdf may implement two separate modes for viewing and reading.
  • Madpdf should have sane defaults, but should provide at least as many options as are required for precise tuning of the viewing experience (any options beyond the minimum should only be added if they provide useful shortcuts and enhance either usability or clarity).
  • Madpdf should be targeted towards an audience that is not necessarily computer saavy, but that may be picky about technical document viewing issues (typography, formatting, key-configuration, etc.). The reasoning is that e-book owners may or may not know computers, but that only book-geaks own e-ink readers (substitute “book-geak” with “scientific paper-geak” or “manga-geak” at your pleasure). So, Madpdf should have advanced document display options, settable from simple, user friendly menus.

Here is the development to-do list.
