I'm using rtorrent with rutorrent.
If I see a torrent that already exists on another tracker I have a good ratio on, I download it.
I then download the .torrent from the new tracker, and match the directories.
I mark this new torrent as "do not download" both on the torrent, and on its separate files.
I remember making an "update tracker" request (just mentioning t in case it makes a difference).
The 3Go torrent that I didnt download from the new tracker is now counted by this new tracker as if I had downloaded it!
I don't really know if I've done something wrong to create this issue, I am sharing the same files, I was downloading from the old tracker, force checking for the new tracker, all at the same time.
What should I do to avoid the issue?

I experienced the same issue. Ekaffrance referes to the "Update trackers" rightclick-menu item in ruTorrent.
Apparently this mainly happens with rTorrent users, however don't have any reliable source for this information.

A workaround is to stop the new torrent completely, to "Force recheck" and resume only when the recheck is done and it shows 100%. Do not request tracker updates while the new torrent is under 100% and you should be fine.

Do you mean that a completed event has been sent to the tracker when "Update trackers" has been pushed while the download hasn't been completed yet?

I don't get this part at all :)

Let me go a bit more into detail. In my case I was downloading a torrent on tracker 1. Additionally I wanted to seed it on another tracker, at that time still incomplete. I downloaded the .torrent file, restricted its download rights, forced a recheck and started seeding it on tracker 2 with let's say 50% of completed data.

Do you mean that a completed event has been sent to the tracker when "Update trackers" has been pushed while the download hasn't been completed yet?

After pushing "Update trackers", the amount of data currently downloaded from tracker 1 was sent to tracker 2, not the whole torrent size.

I don't get this part at all :)

To workaround the falsely reported stats on tracker 2, I had to stop the torrent on tracker 2 and wait until completion on tracker 1. Afterwards I forced a recheck and continued to seed it, without any false download stats being reported to tracker 2.

Hopefuly this cleared things up a bit :) Thanks for the quick reply.

That makes sense now, thanks. :)

Additionally I wanted to seed it on another tracker ...
... the amount of data currently downloaded from tracker 1 was sent to tracker 2 ...

How did you accomplish this? Adding a new tracker group into the very same torrent?
If so then the result is understandable as well as your solution: rtorrent doesn't distinguish upload/download amounts between different trackers, only with different downloads (torrents).

Two different .torrent files from the different trackers were pointing to the same directory - the data was present only once, not twice.

What is a tracker group?
