I am using sublime text to write something with bookdown that uses footnotes extensively. Would be great to get a syntax highlighting for the sequence \^\[.*\].
I'm not sure how difficult this is to implement, however.

To be clear, development on R-Box is being no longer being maintained
and REditorSupport is a viable alternative?
We are working on a qualitative document only. Is there a way to use
these tools for Sublime for *just* the syntax highlighting? So that
there isn't a script in the background pinging for function
definitions etc?
