Hi there! I'm confused—what is this? |
It is an addition to these: https://github.com/rapid7/metasploit-framework/tree/master/data/logos |
Okay, we're agreed on that point: I know what all the rest of those are! What is this banner—i.e., are all Metasploit users going to get it, or is it specific to a single group of people? |
It is not specific in the respect that SecKC represents the community of the MSF userbase. The history is long, goes back to the hick[.]org days and includes skape, HD and so on. I would say that this would be very well received as the project nodding to the community. |
I applaud your initiative! How about this as a compromise—if y'all wanna PR a banner with ASCII art of something that isn't geo-specific text and sign that with "Kansas City Hackers", we'd probably be cool with merging that. In other words, if you wanna send us a banner of a goose or a pumpkin or a car or whatever and include "KC Hackers" at the bottom, that's A-OK. |
I am working on this RIGHT NOW! You are awesome. |
I figured this was the quickest way to get this to you. |
That's kind of an amazing ASCII art. You can simply edit the file in this pull request and replace its contents. I suggest renaming the file if it's appropriate. This is a good compromise. Historically, banners in Framework have been fun and relatively neutral. Users should be able to "get it." Never mind the kernel panic one. ;) I don't know much about SecKC, but it sounds like the meatspace evolution of hick[.]org? I do remember hick[.]org from the early Metasploit days. Good times. Serious contributions to the community. |
This is an amazing compromise. Everything that this community is about and the early days of Metasploit is why a lot of us are doing what we do. Thank you for being awesome and keeping the old school hacking in this project |
Release NotesA new banner has been added to the Metasploit console as a tribute to the hacker community. |
Cool. |
This change adds the SecKC logo to memorialize and support all hacking community initiatives.
