Overview

One problem that chains in lazy aggregator mode have is that there is no way externally to see if the chain is still live without sending new transactions.

The lazy block time adds an additional trigger that can produce a block during long periods of inactivity.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Introduced a new configuration option LazyBlockTime to customize the time interval for block production in lazy mode when no transactions are present.
  • Enhancements

    • Improved block production efficiency in lazy aggregation mode by implementing new timers and sleep interval calculations.
  • Testing

    • Added comprehensive tests to ensure the correct calculation of sleep durations in various scenarios for block production.

Walkthrough

The recent updates introduce a new configuration option LazyBlockTime for managing block production intervals in a lazy aggregation mode when there are no transactions. This enhancement includes setting default values, updating the block manager to handle new timers, and ensuring that blocks are produced at regular intervals even in low-activity periods. Additional tests ensure the functionality behaves as expected.

Changes

Files Change Summary
block/block-manager.md Added documentation for new LazyBlockTime configuration option.
block/manager.go, config/config.go, config/defaults.go Added and integrated LazyBlockTime with defaults and updated block production logic.
block/manager_test.go, node/.../full_node_integration_test.go Added tests for new functionality, including handling of LazyBlockTime.

🐰✨
In the realm of blocks and time,
A lazy timer starts to chime.
Tick-tock, tick-tock, goes the clock,
Even when transactions block.
Every second, minute, hour,
Our code stands firm—a steadfast tower!

  • Files and specific lines of code (under the "Files changed" tab): Tag @coderabbitai in a new review comment at the desired location with your query. Examples:
    • @coderabbitai generate unit testing code for this file.
    • @coderabbitai modularize this function.
  • PR comments: Tag @coderabbitai in a new PR comment to ask questions about the PR branch. For the best results, please provide a very specific query, as very limited context is provided in this mode. Examples:
    • @coderabbitai generate interesting stats about this repository and render them as a table.
    • @coderabbitai show all the console.log statements in this repository.
    • @coderabbitai read src/utils.ts and generate unit testing code.
    • @coderabbitai read the files in the src/scheduler package and generate a class diagram using mermaid and a README in the markdown format.

Note: Be mindful of the bot's finite context window. It's strongly recommended to break down tasks such as reading entire modules into smaller chunks. For a focused discussion, use review comments to chat about specific files and their changes, instead of using the PR comments.
