Freeze

The draft post will be frozen during the weekend at sometime when the release editor think it is necessary.

And the new items from pull requests may be added to another draft post for the next week.

Release

Use https://validator.w3.org/checklink to check dead links. Release the frozen post as weekly update every Monday according to GMT+00:00.

You can release the new post on Sunday. Set the date in the file name to the one that you release the new post. If you release it on Sunday, set the date to Sunday.

If you release the post on Sunday but set the date to Monday, it will not render on Sunday. You will need to trigger a build with a new commit on Monday.

Images

Don't put images in the main repo, and this rule will keep the main repo size small and easy to clone.

R Weekly always uses HTTPS. We can put an copy of the image in rweekly/image repo to the fix mixed content warning for images that are using HTTP.

If the image is not from a blog post, for example, images from books. Or the blog author does not want the images to be displayed on the website, then we can ask the copyright holder of the image for permission or remove the image from R Weekly. This is a very rare case. In most cases, just upload the image to the repo.

If an image is very big, please consider using https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/gh/rweekly/image/...... For example, https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/gh/rweekly/image/2019/ggplot2-flipbook.gif

In the rweekly.tools, there is a script to help to resize images, called upload_image.R. The same tool is also added to R Weekly Team Space.

Highlight

  • Each weekly contains at most 3 highlight posts. When there are special events, eg. UseR!, we can have more highlight posts.
  • Members of the R Weekly will vote for at most three posts on the R Weekly Slack channel every Saturday. If you do not want to recommend any post, you can skip the vote.
  • If any member rejects a link in the poll, we will remove it from the poll.
  • There is a handy shiny widget rweekly/rweekly.highlights to generate poll for Slack.

If you want to be an R Weekly organization member, please take the survey.
