notebook server error on sage.math (port detection problem)

The notebook code that detects whether or not a port is in use and finds a new port seems to be broken on sage.math -- two of us just tried while William had a server on port 8000, and we got the following:

I definitely cannot replicate this on sage.math, even using sudo to login as craig. Everything seems to work fine. So evidently it is already fixed.
