Migrating in from https://www.w3.org/2011/webschema/track/issues/25

Yuliya asks why we need property "typicalAgeRange" in schema.org/CreativeWork if we have "audience" where we can describe suggestedMaxAge and suggestedMinAge?

The LRMI brought the property "typicalAgeRange" to the schema:CreativeWork.

The LRMI has its root in IEEE LOM (Learning Object Metadata).
Even there one can read:
"The typical target audience" can be characterized by data elements
5.6:Educational.Context and
5.7:Educational.TypicalAgeRange"

I like the idea to add the property suggestedMaxAge and suggestedMinAge to a
schema:Audience class. Additionally I like to the a property audienceContext.
The related to IEEE LOM is definition would state:

"The principal environment within which the related schema:CreativeWork is used.
In case of a schema:EducationalAudience the audienceContext describes the
intended place the related schema:CreativeWork is use as Learning Object.

@philbarker - any thoughts on this?

They overlap in many cases but are different in others. Consider a lesson plan for middle school: the audience for the lesson plan is Teachers; the age range for which the lesson plan is suitable is 10-12 yr olds. While the definition isn't clear on this, the example for typicalAgeRange shows exactly this use case.
