Missing the Scrapy entry in Wikipedia in many languages #4233
Comments
As long as the work is done following the guidelines of the corresponding Wikipedia projects, I think this is OK and a nice goal. |
Added Spanish version: https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrapy (feel free to edit or add more info). 🎉 |
For those who want to contribute, you can find here a video explaining how to start a translation from another language: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Translation#How_to_translate And here some relevant info about their polices and guidelines:
The list in the main ticket is for guidance, but please if your language is not there, don't hesitate and translate it! |
I've added a portuguese version (Brasil) of Scrapy in Wikipedia! I used some informations from the documentation and also from the Spanish and English versions. |
Hi @lucasdutraf ! Thank you very much for this contribution! Really cool!!! 😄 🎉 |
what do you think about adding korean page? i can take this job |
Hi @KimKiHyuk ! Yes please! The list was only for guidance, I have just added the Korean to the checklist. Please, go ahead! 😄 |
I've done korean page. thank you for opening good first issue! |
Thank you very much @KimKiHyuk !!! And welcome to the Scrapy family! 🎉 |
I can translate the page to Russian, if it is still relevant |
Hi @abkenov ! You can find how to do it in this comment: #4233 (comment) Let me know if you have any doubt! 😄 |
I've added the page in Russian, however there were troubles with properly adding the logo and it required multiple edits and wikipedia is arguing about it. Thanks for letting me help. I would also like to work on coding issues in the scope of the OSS course that I am taking at the moment in University. Hope there is some work that I can help with! |
Hi @abkenov About contributing to the code, with +400 opened issues I'm sure you will find something to do :) You can start by looking at those issues with some of these tags: “docs”, “good first issue” and “help wanted”, but of course, they are usually the most commented issues, so don’t hesitate to read untagged issues to find if there is something you can start with or some issues that can be closed. Finally, you can try to improve some docs or improve the tests coverage of certain parts of the code. All these actions would help you to start working on the project 😄 Thank you again for your contribution! |
Hey, i have added the page in Italian, i don't know if it's already indexed. Hope i helped! |
Hi, |
That would be great! Do make sure that you follow the guidelines of the Hindi Wikipedia, though. |
Hi, Can I get the contributor badge? |
Good work!
I must say I had not noticed them until now 🤦 From what I’m reading, it does not seem to be something we can give you. It looks like Github automatically displays them when the right conditions are met. For example, if I hover @noviluni’s Contributor badge, it says “This user has previously committed to the scrapy repository.”. |
Hello, |
Hi @alantt01 ! |
Hi @noviluni , Thanks for your reply. That has been done. https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrapy Seems that the citation rules have been tightened up since the English version was written. If dates can be provided I can update the citation details. |
Hi, |
Hi @mdieske ! That would be really great! 😄 |
Hi @noviluni, I'm done. Here is the link to the entry in German Wikipedia. |
great! thank you @mdieske!! 💯 |
I would like to translate in Urdu, |
Hi @faizeansari! It would be amazing if you can fo it! 😄 You can find in this comment a video showing how to do it: #4233 (comment) Thank you for helping to ease it for people knowing Urdu! 💪 |
@faizan2700 Mind that we are talking about the Wikipedia article here, not about the Scrapy documentation. The latter is not internationalized (i.e. translatable) yet, see #3511 |
Hey! I want to translate it into my native language Bengali. Can I proceed with it? |
@btapash yes please! Go ahead! 😃 |
Hey! I can translate it to Turkish. What about it :) ? |
@ituitis20-cetino19 you don't need to ask :) yes please! |
hi, |
I would love to contribute to the Hindi language since I'm a beginner I've no idea of where to start from @noviluni |
Hi @bhandaridarshan, sorry I didn't answer before. I think the Hindi article already exists, but you can try to improve it by adding more information. 🙂 |
Hello, i would like to contribute by translating the page in Greek, is it okay even though it's not in the list with the languages? |
It is great! The fixed language list exists only so that we have a well-defined criteria to close this task at some point, and not keep it open forever. But the more languages, the better! |
I just added the greek translation in wikipedia. I will try improve it as well. |
I just added the Turkish translation in Wikipedia. Here is the page |
Hello everyone. I've started working on this issue with writing Ukrainian translation for Scrapy. There's a strange thing about original EN page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrapy. The very first sentence says that Scrapy was "... developed in Cambuslang". Later the page says it was born and maintained in London. I believe this is a change where Cambuslang was brought to the page: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Scrapy&diff=1177348947&oldid=1112796323. My first thought was that it's a mistake, but looks like it passed many reviews. So, the question is, can anyone explain what doest it mean? I noticed that some translations just skip/miss Cambuslang part. For now, I'll do the same for Ukrainian Scrapy page till there will be a better idea. P.s. Internet seems to not know about Cambuslang technology and, to be honest, it was the first time I ever heard about Cambuslang city. The pictures are pretty nice, I hope to visit it some day after Russian war in Ukraine is over (with UA's victory, I don't think I'll survive the opposite). Just trying to write a page properly. Thank you. |
Cambusland was vandalism. I have reverted it now. |
@Gallaecio Thanks! |
Hello everyone. Added Ukrainian translation: |
Hi, I'm a native Hebrew speaker, can I do the Hebrew translation of the page? |
Hello, |
This is not an issue related with the code itself but with Scrapy.
I've seen that the only Wikipedias with the Scrapy entry are:
English: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrapy
French: https://fr.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrapy
Polish: https://pl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrapy
Chinese: https://zh.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrapy
I think it could be a good idea to create this issue and tag it as "easy" or "good first issue" and maybe even pin this issue some time to encourgare those who want to contribute to Scrapy to create an entry in Wikipedia in their native language.
It could be a good/nice goal to try to get 17 (just to put a number, it is the number of wikipedias with +1.000.000 articles) for june 2020 (6 months).
Feel free to give your opinion or even close the issue if you don't like the idea.
Expected goal:
