FAQ: Can't we have Seraphis but keep our 95 character addresses?

With the way Seraphis and Jamtis are defined now all existing Monero addresses will change.

It is an obvious question whether this is really necessary. After all this needs considerable effort over the whole Monero "ecosystem" to adapt, and a certain danger for disruptions can't be denied.

Looking back several years, maybe in theory it would have been possible to design Seraphis in a way to work with current addresses, but even then only by never achieving many of the important improvements it can offer now in conjuction with Jamtis.

In practice we are probably solidly past this point, with core Seraphis and Jamtis functionality already implemented in the form of the Seraphis library and wallet implementation just now picking up speed.

If it turns out that the Monero dev community seriously overestimates the "capacity to suffer" of the Monero users, worst case Seraphis and Jamtis will never happen, or a chain split will result because of a contested hardfork.
