clarified container format for subtitles and captions
start and end times would seem sufficient.
…we need to make use of the triplet, and where possible of the component_tag.

Let's not specify ISDB if we know nothing about it.

I was hoping that there might have been some ISDB expertise among the the W3C participants, as typically the Japanese electronics firms are more active with Japanese experts in your organisation. In HbbTV, we typically see European colleagues from the Japanese companies.
If there should be no expertise available, I agree that we should not have an empty ISDB section in the published spec..
In general, I'd like to know if any browsers are supporting DVB and ATSC already? If not, why do we need all this extra complexity? |

Connected TV sets that implement HbbTV (i.e. the large majority of connected TV sets deployed in Europe) already support good part of that functionality, although in ways specific to HbbTV and OIPF (which HbbTV builds upon). For the next version of HbbTV (which we are currently preparing), we will be basing our work on HTML5 instead of CEA-2014 as in previous versions. How many browser instances that makes? Some 25-ish million TV sets are sold in the EU per year. To my knowledge, the connected TV share is 40-ish percent. That would mean 10 odd million new connected TV sets in the EU every year. The actual connection rate (i.e. the number of people wo actually hook it up to their Internet service) is probably 60 odd percent. So there's millions of them, they're just not desktop browsers. |
Can you point me to implemented instances or are these all closed source implementations? |
This is pull request 4 out of 9 and it contains updates proposed by HbbTV for the section on MPEG2-TS. See the visual diff to silviapfeiffer/HTMLSourcingInbandTracks:master for a better overview than the diffs. Please ignore the (many) individual diffs contained in this request, and focus on the diffs (source and visual) alone.
