Invalid asset reference in device specification causes exception that prevents rendering

If the asset referenced by a device specification is deleted, an exception is thrown that prevents the user interface from rendering. The error should be recorded, but the REST call should be allowed to return along with an indication that the asset is not found so a "broken link" can be indicated in the user interface.
