2.8.22 is the latest stable release from upstream. 2.9.6 is a beta release and is therefore unstable, and not an important upgrade just yet. I have a local build that successfully compiles, but it doesn't work well at all when installed.

Hi, I can not configure gimp to the Spanish language, this gimp snap is configured only for English. When can we configure the system language, which in this particular case; it is Spanish?

hm... they have the 2.9.8 exe for windows.. so i guess i could download that and use it with wine? but that's just silly! https://download.gimp.org/mirror/pub/gimp/v2.9/windows/gimp-2.9.8-x64-setup.exe

@diddledan said he couldn't make a snap for 2.9.6 that works (so presumably 2.9.8 won't work either). You're welcome to go through the 'Create your first snap' tutorial, so you can understand how snapcraft works, then fork this repo and see if you can get it working yourself! :) Making these things takes work and I can't imagine Daniel has all the time in the world and he's stuck on this one atm, maybe you'll be able to see something he can't :)

That's correct. There is a deal-breaker bug which is preventing GIMP from starting. The bug is in relation to how GIMP is using GLib. I've documented this on the forum at https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/glib-plus-gio-fails-because-of-fchown-snapcraft-preload-ineffective/3179

@diddledan gimp 2.10 RC1 is in Debian experimental. It has several new dependencies.

Yes, I am working on 2.10.0-RC1: https://github.com/diddledan/gimp-snap/blob/2.10.0-RC1-test/snap/snapcraft.yaml

We've just pushed a candidate snap to the store. Could you try running sudo snap refresh --candidate gimp if you have it installed, or sudo snap install --candidate gimp if you don't, and try it out. Please report back your experiences.

I've tested the 2.10 snap on kde neon and it worked fine both from a clean install and from a refresh from stable. Great work @diddledan ! <3

I'm not really a gimp user but the 2.10 snap seems to run correctly. Thanks!

We've jumped past 2.9.6, and 2.10.0 is in the stable channel now, so I'm closing this issue as complete.
