Super excited for this new update! Haven't had one in a while.

I won't write out a paragraph and hurt your eyes, here's the gist:

  • Peacock entirely remodeled, the design looks pretty much the same but the internals are way cleaner.
  • Optimized and modernized to use more current formats like Jquery in every place possible and flexbox.
  • Tabs now resize to fit "infinite" tabs in one window!
  • New privacy features like fingerprint scrambling, user agent randomization and third-party cookie blocking!
  • Keyboard shortcuts like Control + (1-9) to quickly switch tabs.

Best Regards,
Spike

MAC VERSION IS NOT PRESENT IS THIS BUILD

Tons of new changes!

🎥 Animations added to tab opening and closing.
⌨ Many new keyboard shortcuts! Will be documented soon in a dedicated README file. Ctrl+Shift+T works now!
🆕 Massive change: I've switched over from using WebViews for tabs to BrowserViews. This will be a massive improvement on speed, privacy, RAM usage and security.
📦 Entirely new local storage system, actually functional this time.
📺 Picture-in-picture (PiP) support for HTML5 videos and YouTube videos!
🔒 SSL Certificate Dialogs (currently broken along with most other dialogs because of the recent BrowserView transition). gif
🦚 New peacock:// pages including peacock://flags (see image), peacock://about and peacock://version.
⚠ Error pages via peacock://network-error show when something went wrong.
⭐ Finally! Peacock has a dedicated new tab page: newtab
✔ Settings page fixed.
🔑 Permission controls added, again currently broken with the new BrowserViews.
🚅 Blazing fast Electron 8!

Many more features have been added in this build! See for yourself with one of the download links below.

I'm working on the massive new Peacock Mail system (not an email address, an email alias service) to stop spam and see who's selling your data.

Again, as always don't store sensitive data on Peacock.

Thank you for your understanding.

Cheers,
Spike

Settings, Themes and More! | v2.0.56

Pre-release

Lots of new features for Peacock! I feel the main elements of the browser are down with this new version. Navigation has been cleaned up a lot, along with the interface becoming much more fluid. Code has been distributed and organized neatly across other JS scripts like tabs.js, web.js, blockchain.js and vpn.js, allowing more robust engineering for future modifications.

Yes! We now have a (buggy, but functional) adblocker, Peacock Shield more refined and given a dedicated icon. Peacock Shield will block trackers, ads, and privacy-intrusions that websites try to send.

On top of this, Peacock is now better integrated with Discord (join our server to learn more) and now supports Discord Rich Presence so you can show off to your friends that you're browsing.

Also, there is now a settings menu, divided by tabs, where you can manage your themes (including Light or Dark mode), view your history and sign in or out of your Blockstack account. All history is recorded on the Blockchain and is never sent to external databases or seen by anyone which you didn't directly authorize.

Big Changes:
⭐ Setting Menu (with Tabs)
⭐ Themes and Dark Mode
⭐ History and Bookmark Management
⭐ Blockstack Account Sign-in
⭐ Context Menu
⭐ Overhauled UI ( thank you to @EnderDev )
⭐ Keyboard Shortcuts

Changelog:
✅ Discord Rich Presence
✅ Settings Page with Tabs
✅ Customizable Themes
✅ Bug Fixes for Smoother Navigation
✅ Made Window Draggable
✅ Loading Spinners
✅ Disabled Icon Selection
✅ Added Fonts
✅ Search Engine Customization

Upcoming Features:
⬜ Do Not Track Header
⬜ Finish Built-in VPN
⬜ Move Bookmarks to Settings
⬜ Add Animation for New Bookmark
⬜ Create New Customization Controls
⬜ Add SSL Certificate Icons
⬜ Build Alert System

I've started working on documentation in the Wiki where I'll soon be posting guides on how to modify the light/dark themes along with how to create your own themes. I'll also create a wiki page listing all the keyboard shortcuts for those who'd like them. Feel free to leave any suggested guides (about things you had trouble with) on our Discord server.

DISCLAIMER: This is a very early build and shouldn't be used to store/browse any sensitive data.

Cheers,
Spike

First Release of Peacock | Back For Round 2(.0.4)

Our first release yet for Peacock v2 is finally here.

After lots of thinking, I'm happy to announce the first release of Peacock's new form. We have switched over from .NET development to elegant and well-documented Electron. Peacock v1.0 was built on Microsoft Windows Forms, an older software development platform which had many drawbacks.

Several hurdles that Peacock v1 faced was the lack of Blockstack support for Winforms, making the dreams of decentralization almost impossible. Also, being an older platform, Windows Forms had little documentation and weren't fit for cross-platform development, leading us to only releasing a Windows version on the initial build.

Right: Old Logo, Left: New Logo

These limitations had greatly hindered our progression when building the first version of Peacock and I'm proud to announce that we have finally switched over to Node.JS and will be using Electron to build, from scratch, the second iteration of the privacy-friendly web browser, Peacock.

Here's a list of our newest features:
✅ Simple Navigations Controls (Back, Forward, Refresh)
✅ Tab System with Keyboard Shortcuts (Control+Tab and Control+Shift+Tab)
✅ First Version of Peacock Shield integrated (top right shield icon), our Inbuilt Adblocker
✅ Very Basic Support for Blockstack (no GUI yet)
✅ Clean Bookmark System
✅ Do Not Track Header Added to ALL Web Requests
✅ Fullscreen Support
✅ WebP Image Support
✅ peacock:// Protocol Support

Future Additions:
⬜ Discord Rich Presence Support
⬜ Full GUI to Access Blockchain-hosted Browsing History
⬜ Add Permission Control Interface
⬜ Create Settings Page
⬜ Add Support for Chrome Extension APIs

Thanks for checking out Peacock!
Feel free to install this early access build of Peacock using the respective link for your Operating System below.
