Install tarball version of Firefox with just a basic script!

A script to easily install Firefox the tarball way on your Linux machine!

Learn how I scriptified it @ my relevant Medium article

If you are using Steam Deck, this script will install it on your system in like 15 seconds(so you don't have to wait 15 minutes for the repos to load)

Note: This installation script is by no means affiliated with Mozilla Firefox project, or its maintainers.

Usage

Clone the repo and run the script

git clone https://github.com/spookyorange/firefox-linux-install.git
cd firefox-linux-install
sh ./install.sh

To remove the application(if it has been installed with this method)

sh ./uninstall.sh

Updates are handled by running the install script again, you can just run the install script and all good!

sh ./install.sh

Details

The script will install the application in the following destinations if you have installed locally:

  • ~/.tarball-installations/firefox
  • ~/.local/bin/firefox
  • ~/.local/share/applications/firefox.desktop
