Glossary

Term Description
AppScale plugin The plugin used to deploy Google App Engine applications and run them on Subutai, with the advantage of distributing them to peers across the Internet.
Bazaar Subutai’s online marketplace to buy/sell/exchange/barter devices, cloud applications, and idle computer resources. For more information, see Subutai Bazaar or Using Bazaar.
Blockchain Router Subutai’s power-efficient “green” broadband Cloud router and open hardware IoT gateway. It serves as a plug-and-play cryptocurrency wallet and mining device. For more information, see Blockchain Router or Using the Blockchain Router.
Blueprint A single, standardized format to specify general instructions for installing, updating, and maintaining P2P distributed cloud applications.
CaaS Containers as a Service: a cloud service model that allows users to manage and deploy containers, applications, and clusters through container-based virtualization.
Container A building block of an environment, it is a lightweight Linux Container host within the virtual private cloud.
Control Center The desktop application to manage your peers, environments, containers, and other components, as well as monitor your GoodWill balance. For more information, see Using the Control Center.
Edge The outer periphery of the Internet, away from central services, processing, and repository. Residential users and devices - the things composing the IoT - reside on the edge of the Internet where usually, though not always, the throughput and network availability suffers.
Environment A logically grouped set of containers distributed across a single or multiple peers that share the same network (i.e., belong to the same p2p swarm). Environments are owned by users who created them. As the owner, you can distribute them to multiple resource hosts on the same LAN on a single peer, or across multiple peers over the WAN.
Fog A decentralized computing infrastructure where applications, compute, data, and storage are distributed between the data source, the cloud, and IoT gateway.
GoodWill The lightweight digital asset used in Bazaar for the exchange of resources and services. To know more, see GoodWill.
IaaS Infrastructure as a Service: a form of cloud computing that provides virtualized computing resources over the Internet.
KHAN™ The Ethereum blockchain-based reserve currency and staking token that is the default and ubiquitous currency across the Subutai Platform. To know more, see KHAN.
LXC Linux Containers: operating system-level capabilities and isolation to run multiple Linux systems on one control host. We use Linux containers as basic building blocks for Subutai environments.
P2P private network An n-way virtual private network that forms the networking backbone of a cloud environment.
PaaS Platform as a Service: a cloud computing model that abstracts away the details of infrastructure and only provides an application programming interface for developers to build applications and services over the Internet.
Peer A single Subutai node with management services (the Management Container Host) and one or more local resource hosts that contribute resources to be offered to P2P cloud services. All resource hosts of a peer must be on the same LAN.
PeerOS Subutai’s open source, container-based P2P Cloud and IoT software and firmware. For more information, see PeerOS or Using PeerOS.
PeerOS Management Console An application deployed inside the PeerOS Management Host for the purpose of managing a peer’s resource hosts, users, environments, etc. For more information, see Using the Management Console.
PeerOS Management Host The container running within a peer that provides management services and the graphical user interface, Management Console. A single management container can control multiple resource hosts.
Resource Hosts (RHs) Servers that provide premises for new containers. It is composed of the resources available in the computer of the peer owner or operator.
Subutai™ The world’s first intelligent Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Cloud Computing platform. To learn more, visit our site.
Template An image from which containers are created or cloned, allowing one to create and host environments on one or more peers.
