it causes a slow experience, always waiting for it to fetch before showing gui. if you do not have network then you are blocked and most of the time there are no changes. There is a "check for updates" button and Quarks.fetchDirectory method.
note: some pauses needed to be inserted or the gui would not refresh

otherwise its very annoying that you cannot stop it
otherwise you cannot collect stdout if a process delivers long lines
