SamaneriVimala edited this page May 1, 2015 · 24 revisions

Current Status: All available pali sutta texts in German are done. Now working on Vinaya and Abhidhamma.

Beyerlein has the copyrights to many works, which we have obtained and everything is on palikanon.de and palikanon.com so easy to work with. They have also given us various translations of part of the KN, which are as of yet not on their websites.

Dictionary

KLEINES LESEWÖRTERBUCH ZUR PÂLISPRACHE - Verlag Beyerlein & Steinschulte 2005

Buddhistisches Wörterbuch- Bhikkhu Nyanatiloka - Verlag Beyerlein & Steinschulte

Current Status: I made a compilation of both. Ayya Vimalanyani is improving it. Only 1300 words sofar. It is up and running on SC as of March 2015 but not working very well yet.

Dīgha Nikāya

Franke, Rudolf Otto - in Auswahl übers. Göttingen: Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht; Leipzig: J. C. Hinrichs, 1913: digitized version on https://archive.org/details/dighanikayadasbu00franuoft – Only 13 suttas. Best translation we have at present.

VRI - DN22 only

Current Status: DONE & RUNNING April 2015 - Otto Franke translation and DN22 by VRI

Akincano suggested adding DN22 by Klaus Mylius but he never replied again and copyright also not certain. I now added the DN22 from the Vipassana Research Institute. Bhikkhu Moneyyo. currently in Brisbane, is in the process of translating the whole DN and we will get the right to publish it on SC when he is finished, but this can take a few years.

Other available translations:

  • Klaus Mylius* - DN 22 only
  • Dr. Dahlke – partly translated – Neu Buddhistischen Verlag, 1920 – only in book form.
  • Karl Neumann, partly reworked by Beyerlein Verlag. According to our sources a fairly poor translations and much of his own interpretations.
  • Kurt Schmidt – Octopus Verlag? Cannot find this translation, only a reference in wikipedia.

Majjhima Nikāya

Kay Zimwinkel or Ajahn Mettiko Bhikkhu – Jhana Verlag (Buddha Haus/ Ayya Khema) and Ajahn Mettiko have given us permission to use their translation - They sent us the digital source of the first 50 suttas. Still waiting for the rest to be sent to us. According to our sources the best available translation, also based on Bhikkhu Bodhi's translations.

Current Status: DONE & RUNNING Updated Oct 2014

Other available translations:

  • Karl Neumann – (Beyerlein) according to Wikipedia as well as palikanon.de a fairly bad translation.
  • Kurt Schmidt (partly) – on http://majjhima.wikidot.com – Leimen: Kristkeitz, Werner 2003. – Only partly translated. According to palikanon.de a lot of his own interpretation as opposed to actual translations.
  • Dr. Dahlke – partly translated – Neu Buddhistischen Verlag, 1920 – only in book form.
