There is interest in putting some challenges throughout the lessons, so that they are in the location where the instructors will be using them as they go.

swcarpentry/shell-novice#552

The original idea of having the challenges at the end is that each module is on one topic, so therefore the related challenges can all be at the end. The modules now have multiple topics in one, so it might be good to put the challenges associated with that topic in that section, rather than having them all at the end.

This could make this clearer for instructors. It could potentially be clearer for learners, self-guided or during the workshop, but we don't have much data on how self-guided learners are using the lessons.

To make this change, we would have to

  • identify which challenges go in which sections
  • move those challenges to those sections
  • there could still be a set of 'bonus' challenges at the end that either are additional on a particular topic or are additional ones that encompass material from the whole lesson
