User Login Profiles

Setting up a Profile

The fan port supports an expanded feature of the original - saving of all user preferences based on in-game login name. When you save a game under a login name (e.g. JAMES), a preferences .ini file will be saved separately as well (JAMES.INI). This means keybindings, Visual Depth settings, and Music Settings will be carried over next time that name is used to login, even without loading a saved game. It's recommended you set the game to high res mode (choose "640x480" in the visual Depth menu) and turn on Deep Radar (makes buildings that would occlude the view of the player characters transparent) in the Visual Depth menu before you start to make the game look and play better. Note profiles are now saved in the directory C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Syndicate Wars\qdata\savegame in Windows instead of the game's QDATA\SAVEGAME directory. You can force a profile to be loaded when playing levels using the -m argument by using the -u argument with the specified profile name (e.g. -u JAMES). See the Command Line Arguments page for more details.

Setting up a Default profile

It's now possible to set a default profile that will be used on startup until overridden by a new one (by loading a saved game). Simply create a profile with the desired options set then saving a game as above, then copy that profile .ini to DEFAULT.INI. This profile will also load when running individual levels from the command line using the -m argument.
