Hi, when I start emacs with --debug-init, there is a error:

Wrong-type-argument symbolp 'dotspacemacs-folding-method

then I find the variable dotspacemacs-folding-method 's definition is in core-dotspacemacs.el, just below.

'(choice (cosnt evil) (const origami) (const vimish))

I guess the type of evil is wrong , it should be const instead of cosnt, so I changed it, but the error is still here, I want to know
how to make the change take effects, do I have to clear some cache or make some compile, I am new in emacs, Thanks!

By the way, my eamcs version is 27.2.

I fixed the typo.
But I've never seen this error.
Need more details.

Thanks, Here is my setup about dotspacemacs-folding-method

;; Code folding method. Possible values are `evil', `origami' and `vimish'.

In fact, I have tried many kinds of combination of evil with ` and ', but none of them are correct.

this is incorrect

it should be:

'evil

Thanks, I have tried this option, the error is still there, so I guess maybe I need recompile or clear some caches, but I don't know how to do this, this is the initial question I asked.

I have tried your dotspacemacs and indeed, the warning message popped up as you mentioned. However, the issue is not due to an error in the code, but rather that you had misquoted your value for dotspacemacs-line-number, the variable right above dotspacemacs-folding-method.

Instead of

dotspacemacs-line-number `t'

it should be

dotspacemacs-line-number t

The quotations in the comments are to help users distinguish code verbatim from plain text, and should not be used as the values for your variables. For more information on why some have a single quote (like 'all in dotspacemacs-highlight-delimiters which is slightly under) and others (like t) do not, you may refer to the documentation on quoting here.

Thanks, it works ! I am curious about what you have done to find the wrong code, why it doesn't report the right place.

It was simply a matter of experience. I also used to make the mistake of misquoting my variables, so I noticed it right away. Spacemacs (and Emacs for that matter) do not report syntax errors, so that's why it did not show.
