原文の WCA Regulations の冒頭に記述されている RFC 2119 について、RFC 2119「RFC において要請の程度を示すために用いるキーワード」の日本語版を参考に翻訳を統一します。

## Style Guide / 日本語スタイルガイド

日本語翻訳におけるスタイルガイドとしては、サン・マイクロシステムズ (現・日本オラクル) 所属の斎藤玲子氏が作成された「日本語スタイルガイド」を採用します。
この「日本語スタイルガイド」は Sun が所有するスタイルガイドをオープンソースプロジェクトのドキュメント向けに作成されたものとのことです。WordPress の日本語翻訳ガイドラインとしても採用されています。
「日本語スタイルガイド」の全文と簡略版（クイックリファレンス）のリンクを以下に示します。

以下に「日本語スタイルガイド」から本規則の翻訳に重要と思われる項目をピックアップして挙げます以下に「日本語スタイルガイド」から本規則の翻訳に重要と思われる項目をピックアップして挙げます。

- 日本語の句点は全角の「。」を、読点は全角の「、」を使う。
- 日本語には全角文字 (2 バイト文字) を使う。
- 英数字、符号には半角文字 (1 バイト文字) を使う。
- 数字は、慣習的に使われている場合を除いて、算用数字 (1、2、3) を使う。
- 半角文字と全角文字の間には、半角文字 1 字分のスペースを入れる。
- 丸括弧 ( ) の外側には、全角文字がきても半角文字がきても間に半角文字 1 文字分のスペースを入れる。丸括弧 ( ) の内側には、全角文字がきても半角文字がきても間にスペースを入れない。丸括弧 ( ) 内には句点は付けない。複数の文がある場合は、各文の間にだけ句点を付ける。丸括弧が末尾にくる場合は、括弧の外に句点を付ける。
- 長音記号「−」は、長音を含めて 4 文字以下になる単語には付けるが、5 文字以上になる単語には付けない。合成語の場合は、各要素に対してこの考え方を適用する。
- 例: ユーザー、サーバー、コンパイラ、インストーラ、ユーザーインタフェース
- ただし、単語の末尾が er, ar, or, re, y, ew となるもののうち、日本語の末尾が拗音になるもの、および、日本語で定着しているものには、例外として付ける。
- 例: コミュニティー、アーキテクチャー、ランデブー
- 鍵括弧「」: 文中に他の語句や文を引用するとき、本やマニュアルの章、節、および項のタイトルを引用するとき、画面上のメニュー名や、操作ボタン名、日本語メッセージを示すとき、特定の語句を強調したいときに使う。
- 二重鍵括弧『』: 本の題名を示すときに使う。
- 丸括弧 ( ): 文中で補足、注釈、言い換えをするときに使う。
- 波ダッシュ「～」: 範囲を示すときや、文の一部を省略するときに使う（ただし、メッセージの翻訳では避ける）。
- コロン「:」: ドキュメントの場合、基本的には日本語の文章には使わない。文末にコロンが使われている英文を翻訳するときには、そのコロンの意味を翻訳する（ただし、メッセージの翻訳では英語のとおりに使う）。

その他、気をつけているルールです。

- 原文でダブルクオーテーション（"）のところは和文では鍵括弧（「」）にする。
- 主語の区切りに読点を使用しない。例えば、「X は、Y である。」の読点はそれが無いと読みにくくなる状況でない限り不要。
- 英語は物が主語となることが多いが、日本語は人が主語となる方が自然なので意味が変わらない程度に書き換える。
- 英語は SV が完結しないと文にならないが日本語は主語を省略しても文になるので、主語がわかりきっているときは主語を省略する。
- 「～を行う」、「～をする」等の曖昧な語句は極力使用しない。不必要な「～について」、「～に関して」を使用しない。その他、原文が曖昧の場合を除き曖昧な語句はなるべく使用しない。
- 原文の 1 文が必ず和文の 1 文に対応するとは限らない。原文が重文のとき（but 等の接続詞で複数の文が結ばれているとき）等、和文では複数の文に分けることがある。
- "a/b" は英語的な表現なので、a と b に対応する日本語をそれぞれ A と B とすると、「A または B」と訳す。
- "X includes: Y or Z." 等のコロンを用いた文も英語的な表現なので、「X は以下を含む。Y または Z。」と訳す。

原則、これらのスタイルガイドに沿って日本語翻訳します。
ただし、スタイルガイドの翻訳方法の項にありますように、スタイルガイドに沿うことで誤解が生じてしまうようなケースは、正しい意味を与える方を優先とします。
