It needs to be broken up into a few methods, probably, and renamed to be less confusing/jokey.

Update the preferences UI to use Material Design concepts and colors
revise the admin logs concept and make them more...browseable?
refactor assets.User.html_motd() to represent admin logs and latest operations, including password updates better
do updates via API
