chore: use relaxed load for unsync_load
#6179
Conversation
I don't care enough to reject this change, but as a matter of principle I am against making behavioral changes to satisfy model checkers in cases where the behavior is OK in practice. The algorithm here was lifted from prior art. If anything, MIRI could provide a way to annotate code sections it should ignore. |
FWIW this is not not a false positive in Miri. The code is UB according to our current documentation. I would expect Rust libraries to have a higher bar for correctness than "it's UB but we have not observed a miscompilation". Don't get me wrong, I'm not happy that this is UB. But fixing that requires someone to drive the necessary work on the language side; just ignoring the problem is not a solution. |
