As reported in a (poor) review of the appliance on AWSMP, and more recently in the forums:

Error parsing ./data/params.json: garbage after JSON object, at character offset XXXX (before "": 0\n}") at Bugzilla/Config.pm line 324.

As noted in the forum thread, it appears that the issue is with the firstboot initialisation logic when the outgoing email address is configured. Namely this part of the inithook.

Hopefully with the assistance of s.walsh I can resolve the problem once and for all!
