That's a good name I'd say. I don't know if that's a little bit derivative that could get you in naming dispute with Chrome devs in the future. I would suggest to change it to Kromite, follows KDE naming convention maybe?

uazo commented May 3, 2023

I like the idea because it looks like bromite rather than chrome.

that's a little bit derivative that could get you in naming dispute with Chrome

fair point, but if a dispute comes from google for that name it means we hit the jackpot :)
let's say I care little, I'm not very capable in matters related to marketing or design in all its forms, so I don't want to spend too much time on the name, chromite it is!

what do you think of this?

@uazo secure a domain name for chromite soon lol, if that's the name you would like

edit: I can also start putting together a basic website for it, and it can be hosted with gh pages or something

edit2: already started https://github.com/heliophane/chromite-site

no, not at the moment.

Anyway I could, to be honest. I'm not familiar with chromium's source code so my coding contributions would be heavily limited, but helping with things like testing and bug reports are feasible. What kind of help would you need?

I have to organize my response better, however, I can tell you what comes to mind now:

  • most important of all, I would need to discuss technical choices (I miss carl :)

then

  • I can no longer rely on my internal server for the builds: I need to better define the technical infrastructure, I should look for an external server for builds (evaluate the cost and test build timing).
  • in general I would need systemic technical support (because I am not).
  • I would like to better organize the changes that are done by google on the chromium and blink code, which means reading, understanding and identifying the impacts on the changes starting by reading the technical specifications (documentation) and look for a tool that will allow me to better organize
  • I would like to put some parts of code under control, such as idls in blink (which specify what is exposed via javascript)
  • I need a graphic designer and html designer (because i am not)

But those are just the ones that come to mind now

@Universalizer

Hello @uazo ,

Myself Html designer and graphic also.
In my free time,
Can collaborate your project, if you allow.

@heliophane

I see. I can contribute to a liberapay or patreon monthly if you'd like to try to get a buildserver set up. I can also paypal you directly to avoid patreon's cut. Hetzner is a really nice and cost effective when it comes to be VPS pricing.

I need a graphic designer and html designer (because i am not)

While it's not much, I put this together in hte last few hours or so while waiting for things to do at work. I know there are some issues (favicons being broken, mockup logo is not centered to page title), but I think it looks pretty nice, and is extremely lightweight. I wasn't sure what to write on hte page so I just kinda made it up as I went.

List of chemical elements such as chromium and vanadium.
Almost all names have been taken except:

  • mendelevium
  • rutherfordium
  • seaborgium
  • unbinilium
  • unbiunium
  • unbibium

There is gold there.
Of course the domain is no longer available.

But GOLDIUM.ORG is still available.

Just adding one point, - automatic update notification.
Be ever poor looking logo it may be, or ridiculous name it going to have, I'll use it, as you continue to develop. 🙏

More suggestions :-

" Bromite NG " = Bromite Next Generation,

" Bromite X " = Bromite e X perience.

Hopeful, at present time & in near future's also " Technologically Revolutionary Browser ",

Name ; also dedicating Carl's and Uazo's efforts in " The Bromite Development " Project's Fundamental and Essence,

Ultimately, Uazo's Choice and Will.

As in the past, Carl's wrote in " last paragraph " ; bromite/bromite#2141 :-

My personal suggestion: just can it and let's go back to the reason why I started this project: getting Android users a slightly better browser which is not a platform for ads and A/B tests/experiments. I am not interested into anything else.

Futuristic and revolutionary (privacy centric out of the box).

" BromiteXNG " = Bromite e X perience Next Generation,

Uazo, i saw many times, you are constantly Researching, Revising to Develop improve Bromite Browser Privacy Features.

So, if periodic table of elements / minerals, if it is not concern for Name.

" RnD " = Research n Development.

Or

" RnD Browser " = Research n Development Browser.

After all, here mostly people are interested in "Default Privacy, security and stability", isn't it ❓

Name dilemma ❓

We are talking about "FOSS-something or Libre-something" as a "Name", ( Good ),

Sorry, but we still follow BTG ( Big Tech Giants ) name's scheme,

It means = that if BTG set their "app name" On elements / minerals,

So, we must also follow that "same scheme for name" with closing eyes❓, knowingly or unknowingly,

So limited, we cannot even think beyond outside the name scheme ❓or we want to prove that we are more scientific and rational, than compare to BTG.⁉️

All Elements and Minerals under "Periodic Table of all the Chemicals (Elements)",

All leafs & vegetables under "Agriculture & Farming",

All fruits and flowers under "Gardening or Horticulture or Floriculture",

All these "above mentioned" things under planet " Earth ",

All planets, constellations / galaxies under " Universe ".

Our Human life sustains on this "Planet Mother Earth",

Answer ; " Earth or Universe ".

Can we dedicate this Browser name to "MotherEarth".❓

@uazo

I like names that contain "GISK".
Like MAGISK instead of MAGIC.

The word "GISK" also has a positive meaning.
https://www.meaningslike.com/name-stands-for/gisk#learn-more

If you still want to carry the word "BRO" contained in "BROMITE"
"BROGISK" is still available in all domains.

If you want to bring the word "CHROME" let's forget about it because as they say that name will bring problems and make the choice of names limited.

Unless you replace "CHROME" with "CHROMA" + "GISK" = CHROMAGISK.
"CHROMAGISK" is still available in all domains.

There is a browser called MIDORI which means green in Japanese.

Others for example:
AKA is red in Japanese + GISK = AKAGISK
AO is blue in Japanese + GISK = AOGISK
KURO is black in Japanese + GISK = KUROGISK.
SHIRO is white in Japanese + GISK = SHIROGISK.

Don't even think about naming TRAGISK or ALLERGISK. 😂

For summary:

  1. BROGISK
  2. CHROMAGISK
  3. AKAGISK
  4. AOGISK
  5. KUROGISK
  6. SHIROGISK
  7. REGISK

Let's play on words + gisk. 😜

Here Name Scheme, (My suggestions)

ALRIGHT DEFINITELY "YES TO" > Broader / Widely / Widened Scope ✅,

BUT SURELY "NO TO" > Narrower / Tiny Scope ❌,

That Means :-

NOT BOUNDED TO > "ANY SINGLE elements / minerals / metals",
BUT YES TO > "ALL mining elements",

NOT BOUNDED TO > "ANY SINGLE leafs / mints / foodgrains / fruits / flowers",
BUT YES TO > "ALL farming types yields",

NOT BOUNDED TO > "Any single colours"
BUT YES TO > "ALL colours" i.e. "Rainbow Or Aura".

Honestly justice to Bromite also, if "Bromite is the BASE & Foundation Ground", as well as simultaneously it will justify to these current project name (Uazo's build) also,

One Realistic Example ;

Searx ( Original Search Engine Repository )
SearXNG ( Custom Fork of Previous Original )

" BromiteXNG " in my previous suggestion.

Or

" BromiteNGX " = Bromite Next Generation e X perience.

Myself Repeat here again, what i'm trying to convey here :-

If thinking for other naming schemes, than better to be broader scope ✅, instead of narrow scope ❌.

Just Suggestion, "For No Discriminations of any single element and mint" :-

" Universalism "
or
" Universalistic "

Thanks to everybody for your kindful attention.

if anybody may have greater unique ideas for name schemes then please share here in this current thread.

Okay alright, it will be good or best to have a unique name, which has never been used before in the past.
