Dashboards or progress reports are used to represent, graphically, the current status and/or historical trends of chosen indicators that serve to give insight into an organisation's performance. There are two methods that can be used to generate dashboard reports in IBM Process Designer.
- The first is through configuration settings that expose the business process model execution results to the Portal. This is functionality that is built into the tool and no customisation is necessary. The steps required to configure the built in reports can be found in the Out of the Box section of this Tutorial.
- The second is through customisation. This method requires that measurement points be defined on the process model. These serve to capture custom information used to generate reports. The steps required to capture custom information are described in the following tutorial: Monitoring. The Custom Reports section of this Tutorial explains how to create custom reports that can be exposed through the Portal.
For Assignment 3 and Project, only Out of the Box reports are used.
Below are the steps required to leverage the out of the box dashboard reports that are exposed through the Portal:
- Select the business process model you wish to expose to the portal:
On the overview tab, select which users will be able to view the dashboard report through the Portal. This is accomplished by configuring the "Expose Performance Metrics" setting as seen below:
- Log into the Portal as Manager (or the user you selected to have access to view the dashboard reports in step 1 under "Expose Performance Metrics"). Select Process Performance tab and you will see the business process you have exposed in step 1:
- Clicking on the name of the business process will generate a process performance dashboard report. This report is a summary of the process instances that have been executed.
- At the bottom of the report, you will be able to see bar charts showing the 2 timing intervals you defined.
